Well I decided on Schneider finally Kind of annoyed that they wont work with me to get an orientation date for next monday. I test for my cdl this Friday yet they didn't even want to give me an over the phone interview until this thursday. which means I might have too wait a week to get into orientation I'm not looking forward to waiting too start but I suppose I will be patient.

Just be patient and one thing in this industry Patience is a virtue... Besides being patient to get on with them believe me from experience you'll do very good moneywise running the chemical tankers with Schneider.

My story is simple: went to work for Knight when it was still known for being a 'driver's co." (then about 700-800 tractors). I hired on for the regular 3-day min home time as an Express driver (no perm assigned truck to keep rolling, and so they had no real leverage over me, just drive enuf to earn insurance!).

When I went thru orientation, there were 30 new hire's in my class (Dec 2003). Lost 3-4 during work history confirmation process during orientation..

When I 1st started working for Knight, I would regularly see some of those new hires' in my orientation class at the terminals...as time went by, came across fewer & fewer.

The last couple of years of my 5 yrs with Knight, I dont remember seeing any of them! Does that mean I'm the only driver out of 26 who started at that time that remained with Knight? The answer is likely 'Yes," and I stuck it out for the home time---not the miles, until I decided to retire from trucking.

And after talking w/many Knight drivers during that time, I came up with my 'analogy'.. [IMG]

That's actually understandable. Lots of people come and go, including office staff. My current dm has been a knight for about a year now. He took a week off for vacation. Nice guy imo. Maybe you'll decide to come back some day. It ain't bad now. Hometime's the same, the pay is the same $600 weekly, trucks the same. :biggrin_25518:

Please tell me that that $600 is net......Have you noticed pay dropping at all with any of the OTR companies you know of? I swear to God that everybody and their mother are back to paying .28-.31 CPM even with experience, at least here in SLC. It that and a whole bunch of 1099 crap. I just noticed the other day that Knight here expanded their yard and it looks pretty good! It was always frustrating to have that yard basically cut in half and unusable a few years ago.

With the training companies...Yes. Some of these guys are making less today than we were making 10 years. There are still plenty of companies for good drivers that will net you $1000 dollars a week easily.
