Very doubtful you'll take a pay cut at LTL companies. Extra-board is the way to go; don't get burned out with boredom due to every day of your life being a photocopy of the day before. Extra-board, you run different routes all the time and many times make more money than the drivers on bid runs.
Looking for position with more hometime out of Houston, TX

Forgive my ignorance, but how does percentage pay work? Will definitely look into this as I want to continue staying busy and make lots of money

Good to know. So is extra-board guaranteed daily miles/a certain number of miles per week?
-
No, you just take whatever the dispatcher throws at you.
I ran extra-board for a few years at a reefer company and was the top paid driver out of about 125 drivers at the terminal.
That company had local/regional/otr. The other drivers stayed upset with me because I refused to sign up for bid runs.
The company was YRC and I drove for a non-union reefer division. Dispatchers took care of me because I told them, "Call me anytime; 24/7 and I'm ready to roll." They knew I wasn't just running off at the mouth and could depend on what I said.Last edited: Dec 17, 2019
TripleSix Thanks this. -
If a load pays the $1000 you get $250 regardless of miles,
Their loads pay decent for company trucks, a 300 mile out and back load pays aroind $280-$300 that day and be home that night -
Then keep living the crete life and see your family every 25 daysTripleSix Thanks this.

Will keep that in mind.
