Most states allow for a maximum of 41' from the kingpin to the center of the rear axle group. A few states (Rhode Island being one of them) allow for a maximum of 41' from the kingpin to the center of the rear axle itself. I don't run California, but I'm told that they only allow 40' maximum from the kingpin to the center of the rear axle.
Looking for suggestions...... 40' bridge rule

I have used that app too, it is very accurate and figures it out faster than I can with a calculator or pencil and paper. However, all it does is run an algorithm to tell you where to set your tandems to ensure your axle weights are legal... It will in no way help you with ensuring that you meet bridge law requirements.
Edit: Get an atlas and learn to read the bridge law portion, and then you best learn how to adjust weight without that app. Cause to have you axles at no more than 40' may require to have the load positioned differently inside that trailer.not4hire Thanks this. -
It isn't bridge law people! It's king pin to rear axle regulations. Bridge law concerns minimum distance between axles for x weight.
All you guys running typical 53 ft trailers are always legal with the bridge laws.KANSAS TRANSIT, dibstr and not4hire Thank this. -
I sure wish @scottied67 had a video on this....

Most trailers have kingpins set 36" from the front. Your in California or going there so yours is new so I'm sure it is a 36" set.
You need to be 40' from the kingpin to the center of the back axle, maximum.
So, 36" is 3 feet.
So measure 43' feet from the front of the trailer. That's your max to the back axle.
You can have that back axle in front of that mark, but not behind it. -
KANSAS TRANSIT, not4hire and spyder7723 Thank this.
