Well... Last week has been a real good challenge on many levels! Equipment issues at the school have really made an impact on training! No fault of the school really, the equipment is a little bit older, but unfortunately last friday someone put sugar in all the tanks on all the trucks!!!! It's a real bummer being that it's four days from the driving test! For some of the students, these four days are pretty critical, so I feel for them. Fortunately for me, I feel confident enough, but still disappointed ... Losing my much valued training time! They are doing the best they can but it doesn't seem to be a very quick fix! Wish I had a better update... And it is what it is!!!!

    ATX Thanks this.

Oh man, I'm all set to start there next Monday on 12/17. Of course, the first week is all book work and taking the written. Then, there will be a two week break for the holidays and class will resume on 01/07/13 for the driving skills portion. Hopefully, they will have the trucks running again by then. Sorry to hear about your troubles there and for sure hope that it works out for everybody and, of course, for you especially! Thanks for the update and keep me posted, please.

It should be fine by the time your class starts with the driving skills. The mechanics are steady working on getting all the Trucks cleaned out, and up and running. I'm hoping they have them running again by tomorrow, so we can all get some more practice before the class ends and we have to go out and show our future employers how well we can drive their trucks. Every time I get behind the wheel, I get a little bit better, and gain a little more confidence. We'll see how it goes, and I'll keep you posted. Later

Forgot to mention that last week, a recruiter from Roehl came by and gave his pitch. He seemed like the most realistic one we've heard from so far ... from my rookie point of view, that is!! Ha! Ha! : )

Thanks for the updates. I'll confess that the fleeting thought crossed my mind of withdrawing from the school, but it sounds like they are taking care of business there as quickly as possible. I certainly hope that you and all of your fellow classmates are able to get adequately prepared for the skills tests and obtain your CDL-A's!

I agree with you about Roehl apparently being a solid company and they seem to be a bit more selective than some in their hiring process. However, I am reading on this Board that several of their trainees for the flatbed division are having difficulty getting trainers. At least one had to wait two weeks or so after orientation before he got a trainer. Also, freight has slowed and several are complaining about low miles. My recruiter at Roehl, however, tells me that their Texas Regional Van division is staying busy and they are ready to roll with new hires.

You may want to check with Maverick also. Their Glass Division is hiring in this area. It is a lot more physical work, however, than Vans, but the mileage pay is considerably higher ($.40 cpm cf. to $.30). With Glass, you are out two weeks at a time.

Anyway, thanks again and all the best to you! Also, keep me posted on how you do with the CDL test!

    Good morning everyone! : )
I wanted to give an update for my Training class that graduated on 12/14/12 at Austin Community College Professional Truck Drivers School, in partnership with International Schools.

    Overall, the school is "Great"!!!!!

James and the staff are personable and professional with the skills to help get you where you need to be!
They utilize incremental Skill building drills and procedures that allow the student learn and feel confident as each day progresses.

Just like with everything, the more you put into it, the more you get out of it! They emphasized from the beginning to be diligent in getting all the testing for our permits done at the earliest of opportunities, and it turned out to be very critical for a few in my class. If your still having to spend time retaking tests, while everyone else is already moved on to driving skills, you can put yourself behind the eight ball!

At the same time, their policy that allows you to roll to the next class in order to pass your driving test is great, and then it becomes a time thing, as it will require another week or maybe a month to get it done! They "are" flexible enough to give more attention to areas you may be struggling in, and once it again, it comes down to your attention and determination to get what they are teaching you.

It was such a positive feeling yesterday with all 13 students that Drive tested having their CDL-A, with the exception of one, and he will be testing again soon. The positivity and excitement was super high with the buzz of "next steps", getting jobs, to start earning some green! Which is pretty much what we were all there for!

So, even with having to deal with the equipment being sabotaged(which is still under high investigation), and a few other issues here and there, everyone came together and stepped up to make it a highly successful class.

If your looking for Truck Driving Training, and you live around the Austin, San Antonio, South Texas area, the A.C.C. program will get it done!
Refresher training, and job placement if you ever need it in the future!
I highly recommend it, and it is well worth the money!

Just in case they ever get to see this, I just want to let all the guys know how much I appreciate them!

James - the brains with a "heart" to keep us all motivated and moving forward!
Jonathon - the wisdom and skills to show us, and teach us what we needed to know day in and day out.
Bill - the "good ole guy" who can do it with his eyes closed, and one arm tied behind his back, and laughing all the while.
Edward - drill Sargent that won't take your @*&^!, and will show you again if you need it.
Dan - the epitome of patience who will let you do it your way, till you figure out what he taught you the first time works way better!
Rick - the recruiter, who tells you what it is, and he tells what it isn't, and reminds you that the ball is in your court and the choice is all you!

You are a great group, and it is very evident that you care about your students!
Thanks a million for all your efforts and support!

Hey Smoothgrind, Congratulations to you and to your whole class! I have been watching for your latest update and certainly feel reassured reading your resounding endorsement of the the ACC/International program. As you already know, I am scheduled to begin there on 12/17 with the next class. All the best to you and keep us posted on where you land with your first driving gig for the Green! Thanks again!

Smoothgrind, glad to hear you are happy with ACC. I am looking at going there this summer for my training and appreciate your updates. How is your employment hunt and selection going?

    Hello,

I am also in Austin and looking to pull the trigger on either the ACC program or ATDS in Waco in the next week. I really would like to get in with TMC but I have not heard whether they will hire students out of the ACC program or not. ACC sounds like an excellent program as well and it would be nice to save on hotel and a few dollars on the school itself. I did call TMC and the recruiter I talked with did not know if the ACC program was on their approved list.

Im interested to hear who has actually been hired out of ACC and by who.

    Thanks everyone!
