I'm hoping to buy a used motor to replace a blown motor in a 2015 579.

I'm wondering what I need to be aware of as far as making the r and r a straight forward drop in.

    Any info is greatly appreciated

Theres a bunch of companies selling rebuilt crate engines that would be a simple swap, that should be alot more trustworthy than a used junkyard engine without any service history. Im sure someone will be around with suggestions on a specific rebuilder they have had good experience with.

    I've got a 2014 isx 15 cm2350 cpl 3939.

Anybody know how if a 2016 or 2015 out of a paccar truck would be a straight forward drop in. Any need to flash the ecm or just swap ecms?

Replace as is is always simplest. Never did this unless we had a bad crank or block. We could put the used engine in for much less than fixing an engine with a bad crank.
It has been 20+ years but I used to get them from Kerns in Atlanta ( They are still in business ) which bought insurance wrecks and trade in fleet truck type stuff. As best I remember they pulled the pan and inspected the liners. If Ok replaced rod and main bearings. Adjusted overhead. Thirty day warranty. If it takes you 3 weeks to put your engine in you really only have one week warranty.
A friend of mine gets them from LKQ in Athens on a regular basis. They will not even inframe a DD15. Have no idea of their program.
You can find lots of places on line selling pull outs. Often that is exactly what they are. May have started them? You could save a lot flip your quarter.
Then there was the place in Paris OH. They had also bought the old Peterbilt? facility in Indianapolis. Went to look at a used roll off container truck there but did not like it. We went to Paris to look at another truck. That place sold pull outs as they came out of the truck however they have a dyno. Every engine was ran and had a tag on it. HP, oil pressure, blow-by etc.
    Lots of options out there.

    D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

Theres no such thing as a SIMPLE swap..
I just repower a 388 that had a junk ISX and put a Acert in it ..
Theres alot more to it that just dropping a different motor in .. you have alot of things that have to be Adapted .. there was a cost of about 12,500 in additional parts above the cost of the motor .. just a warning some of the specialty parts to adapt you might need there could be some waiting time

    Yeah, I fully understand that.

I was referring do an isx15 that was a few years newer.

They appear to be the same but obviously the cpl's are different.

I, in no way want anything to do with a full swap with a different motor.

I'm just looking for options for the best way to get back on the road...

Dealer is talking about 50k+ for a motor alone. Waiting to hear back about what they cam offer for a long block.

Sticker shock has me interested in a used motor

For what you will end up paying to rebuild ur current vs a used just rebuild it. You may just get a junk motor...
Although if you really wanna get a used motor find a CPL with the HP u wanna run

JMHO.. but there never was a good ISX.. they have a known history of having issues ..
I sure wouldn't go shopping for used 1 cause the odds are not in your favor of finding a good used ISX
Your just jumping out of the frying pan into the fire
They make a excellent boat anchor though

    AModelCat and Siinman Thank this.

I’ve got a good ISX, made in 09, cm871, did an inframe at 1,074,000, now has 1,170,000,

I’ve been through the engine, new front main gasket, doesn’t leak oil anywhere, anymore.
    It’s in my T660
