Yes. It was through Schneider. $135 a week all in except for personal health care.
And what the other guy said about win/loose at that rate, I'm sure he's correct but insurance, in many respects, is about piece of mind. Also, since it was through Schneider, they had a national account with Safelite and those people were great at responding to claims. I've had my windshield replaced at truck stops and shopping malls; whatever was convenient for me. I've had them do it when I wasn't even at the truck. Very, very accommodating folks. A+ in my book.

I would have guessed that Schneider is self insured, at least to a point. So I would assume that they figured out what the average cost for windshields per truck is, and the $5 per week that they charged you is what was needed for them to break even, or come out a bit ahead.

My commercial insurance does not cover windshields. It may be an option, but I figure that I can pay for windshield replacements cheaper than to pay the insurance company to replace them. It is a maintenance item in my mind.

Maybe OP was the guy I heard on the radio outside knoxville trying to sell a flatbed trailer wench for $10. Gotta make that safety bonus money back somehow!

I see two ways to view this, the first is essentially the legal or agreed to at the very start. Whatever policy was in place that both parties were aware of prior to the incident occurring should determine how the result is handled. If there was no policy in place ahead of time then a negotiation between both parties should occur until an agreement is reached.

The other way to view this is simply supply and demand, performance vs doing the bare minimum. If you as a driver feel that you are not being treated fairly then seek a better outcome. DO NOT go off half ####ed thou while mad so make sure you have an alternative in place before speaking out. As a trucking company the same goes. Is this driver better than what you can replace them with and if so can you legally require the driver to cover the expense, was this stated prior to the incident so you are legally covered. If the driver is not that great then you can use this to drive him out of the company and replace with a better one.

    #### Judge, you been hanging out around some older hands. The mantra is...
"You cannot beat a driver out of his pay as long as he is in your truck and out or your sight."

One driver ask another: See you are working for John now,
    What are you making?
    !0 cents a mile.
Really, thought he only paid a nickel...
He does, Promised to pay me a nickel, and I promised to steal a nickel...

CAXPT, FLHT and Opus Thank this.

I’ve worked for shady companies, you learned to write name, truck number, trip number, driver number on everything.
even though it was sealed in an envelope they say they lost it, I made copies

Ancient days when trailers carried two spare racks. Sell worn one; fully mounted for $50, bring in the cut chain and dangling lock as proof of theft.....
This is just the way it was at some places/times. Me personally, I was able to run, perform, and make money. As long as I was paid my miles (the company base for that trip), every Friday nite I was in, they were safe. Some clerk try a @tramm01 on me, it wound up costing them my loss plus. Nickel a loaded mile, keep the discount, don't bump the ticket.
Hey, new deal. Gonna raise you all to 6 cents. Oh, and start showing the discount.
So, started using the simple math, gave them the fleet average and kept the gain.
Figured we were about equal then.
