At any rate when he commuted the sentence Governor Jared Polis stated his reasons.

I was one of those who was fine with the 110 year sentence. The actions of Aguilera-Mederos that day were truly reckless.

What do you believe should be a reasonable sentence for Aguilera-Mederos?

I'm not high, but I am lying down.

I really couldn't tell you......sentencing has become so weird across the county it's really hard to know.
That said, a virtual life sentence for an 'accident', seems a bit excessive.
    What's to be gained?

The punishment must fit the crime, as the legal saying goes.

If a shooter guns down four innocents, we would not bat an eye over a 110 year sentence. But in this case, people want to tie in the word "accident", which really doesn't fit since deliberate actions were taken leading up the crash.

We all know what happens when wrongdoers are not adequately punished or no punishment is put in place. Just look at America's major cities.

It's about maintaining standards. Having no standards always leads to chaos and mayhem.

The Colorado case still really chaps my hide. The guy couldn't read or speak English, had zero training and took the wrong route. (He loaded lumber in Saratoga, Wyoming; anyone with half a brain would go north from there to I-80 east to I-25 to get to Texas, but this idiot took US 40 down through Empire to get to I-70, which I wouldn't do even for fun with a light load in the summer.) He claimed that he knew his brakes were bad before he left Saratoga. He didn't stop at any one of a dozen places (including a designated brake cooling area just before the last hill into Denver) and then because he can't read, he swerved left instead of right at the runaway ramp. To top it all off, instead of ramming the KKW truck parked on the shoulder, he closed his eyes and swerved into traffic, killing four, injuring a dozen, and destroying two dozen vehicles.

But because he's a good looking Spanish speaker, his gofundme went through the roof and he was allowed to go home to Texas to be with his family for two years before his trial.

The trucker boycott probably had nothing to do with the governor's decision. The Mexican vote absolutely did. (Receipts in the video below.)

As for the idiots who said they were going to boycott loads to Colorado, I for one wish they would, since most of them don't know how to drive on snow or in the mountains.

By the way, I've been boycotting loads that go east of the Mississippi for over four years now, but I don't think it has had any effect. Still feels good though.

It kills me that we can mock and ridicule drivers who follow their GPS onto an outdated covered bridge or who drive too fast in the fog or wreck because they're looking at their phone, but this guy who knew his brakes were bad before he left the shipper, and who didn't know how to drive in the mountains (he actually took the truck out of gear on the final slope), and who didn't meet the basic requirements to obtain a CDL -- oh no, it was an accident. Could've happened to anyone!

In the before time they would have deported his corpse back to Cuba after he died in prison.

I was fine with his 110 year sentence. He could've been made into the safety poster boy, "Don't be like him"

And if it becomes known that he was too stupid or ignorant to know what to do, that sentence would have encouraged the wives and mothers of other good-looking but stupid, ignorant people to steer them away from truck driving into a more suitable field, like becoming a actor or a lawyer or a politician.
