Sounds like the pros outweigh the cons to you, which is important. Switching is tough but doable. I actually enjoy P&D or linehaul, but since I'm on flex, I really don't have a choice. All in all, would rather work days and be near home, but that's just me. Good luck, I know it's a tough choice.

I like working nights doing linehaul better, plus the gf works nights so it worked out, although moving back home ill be a little further but we will make things work, she plans on moving here after school anyways.

Thats what I did not like about Conway. Either your doing p/d or linehaul at night. If they were different weeks it would be ok, I had one week I did p/d 2 days, then got stuuck on linehaul for the rest of week, they preached safety but come on nothins safe about that. Most companies your either line extra board or p/d extra, dock extra and all that

I will say that I think UPSF is the best union carrier out there right now. You might get laid off come winter though.

never thought of that but dont think so, all the other guys there told me someone left the company for a better job with the actors guild union. same time though YRC could lay me off again as well, but at least at UPSF i wont hve the apt and worry about rent

Dude, just go with the one you think you will be happier with. Sounds like your social life means enough to you to influence your decision towards UPSF. I know it sucks swapping jobs and living back at home, but your wages will catch up eventually to where you can be out on your own again. You may end up with UPSF for a long haul and be happier there. I would give it a shot! Good luck!!

PS: Not gonna hate ya for leaving our parent company to work for the competition... I probably would do the same if I was in your position! :biggrin_255:

Arch, which terminal? If you decide to come on board and have any questions about the ins and outs of UPSF hit me up.

@Roadrunner basically the thing is where would I rather be in 10 years lving as well... I got it good back home plus all my stuff is there and I can return to building/restoring cars again along with some other projects. And to your PS you work for our SCAB branch LOL. Although your guys out west should come work for us over here, we need that kind of balls to do a wildcat strike

@Hammer71 I was gonna PM you but havent seen you on here in a whie so figured you didnt have time to get one. I am going to apply for the Bayshore/farmingdale terminal out on long island where I grew up. I have thought about applying to your terminal multiple times but didnt wanna take any cuts living on my own. Guess its better for me to move home and do it

Thats a good terminal, actually 2 different buildings. If you can handle the initial BS pay scale for a while you'll be ok (still waiting on new contract proposal). Not sure of their regular runs but I know they have the regular Harrisburgh and newburgh runs daily (and thats on extra board). So if your hurting for some extra cash you could pick one of those up on the weekend. You can PM anytime, I pop in real quick a few times a week but dont really post up much. If they want to send ya to Newburgh you have a place to stay.

I got my apt in Maybrook now which I would get rid of if I get the gig in Bayshore. Yea the drivers seemed real happy about the place which was actually a good sign. Yea the two different buildings confused me at first but got the idea. Management there seemed really really cool. Im actually being hired with a set run already. Going to be runing Cateret, NJ. Short run, with some dock work, Im not a fan of dock work at all but will take it over peddling again. Also it doesnt seem like a ridiculous amount like back at CWF. Basically work the dock there till about 9, hook set and leave by 10, work the dock in Cateret, then go back home, and they even said if you want to put extra hours in I can jockey or work the inbound, which I might do some days during that probation pay time.

I believe the runs are Cateret, Philly, Harrisburg and Montgomery. I believe there was another back cant remember. The Cateret is the shortest but from what a driver told me its all hourly paid which is ok. I do work a 2nd job when available so it wont be to much of a concern. Actually ill be living at my dads when I start there for a while, then eventually just rent out the apt he has in the house this way I got some privacy, and bu that time my girl will be done with school and she will be able to move in as well

Sounds good to me if you can keep up with the dock work. That sounds like the only draw back but you can probably live with it. I bet you the day will come when YRC starts putting us on the dock, so may as well go to UPSF. I would hate to drive 130 miles just to go see my friends and family every week.

    ACH1130 Thanks this.
