I often haul heavy loads that require me to slide the fifth wheel when I hook up my RGN. (forklift that weight 61,000 lbs).
I have a Fontaine fifth wheel and slide.
I use some lithium grease right now but I think that it gets pushed away or something. As a result the slide area is not properly lubricated and instead of sliding easily, it gets stuck, then suddenly unstuck and the truck shakes and I have to hit the brakes instantly to not slam anything, etc etc. I was wondering if there is any lube that stays put better?

Are you talking about white lithium from a spray can? I think gear lube works good. Thick so it sticks. Plus the quart jug with the taper tip works for getting in the tight spots and applying.

It will wash away and not attract grime to plug things up. It won't last long but it won't make the problem worse. Dish soap is also good for washing windshields and cleaning the cab. Not a one trick pony.Crude Truckin', upallnite, Bean Jr. and 5 others Thank this. -
This is the best lube I have found. It isn’t cheap but worth it to me. -
Try chainsaw bar oil, seems to last for awhile.

This stuff works awesome! I use it on the top plate as well as the slider.

Lucas makes some for the top and slide as well, it comes in a non pressurized plastic bottle with a tip which can be left very small or opened more to suit, it doesn't pour well when cold, though, I used it when unhooking or for warm weather.
The correct way to slide a plate is to dolly down and dump the suspension, taking the majority of the weight off and sliding is easy, then, else use a pry bar to position it carefully while unhooked from a trailer.
I usually don't have to move it much or often l, so that works well for me.Last edited: Dec 9, 2018
Bean Jr., x1Heavy and daf105paccar Thank this. -
Bar Oil, Dish Soap, Bar Soap (Very temporarily, first rain removes it) Old time bearing grease in red form (This one has gotten VERY hard to find. I think there is still a dab here and there maybe, but something to do with process of making removed certain chemicals or substances which once made it very good.)

When I can find the red grease in the spray can, I get that. I haven't been able to get it lately, so I've been using this, and it works pretty well for me, on the slides and the top plate.
