I hit a family of geese one day in Mississippi. A mama and several kiddos crossing the road and nothing I could possibly do. I stopped down the road at the truckstop and the lady who had been right behind me chased me down in the truckstop and SCREAMED at me, calling me a ruthless murderer and how could I do such a thing, and so on. I calmly looked at her and said, "Ma'am, I'm sorry about the geese, and believe me, I'm from Colorado, I'm as much a nature lover as anyone else. But the way those trucks are built, if I'd tried to swerve that 80,000 pound truck to avoid those geese, I'd have probably wrecked the truck, and who knows if I'd have hurt you, or killed me."

She said, "That's no excuse" and stormed off, stopping to write the company's phone number down off the back of my trailer. I walked over and handed her my company-issued business card.

I was SB I-25 about mm5 in Colorado one night and a mountain lion walks onto the road right in front of me. I got as far right as I could but still hit his hind quaters with my left front. It was pitch black so I couldn't see where he went I pulled into the NM coup and they called the Colorado SP. The officer showed up to checkout the truck, pushed bumper back about 3 inches, and said he didn't see it in the road when he came down but would go back and look and let the DOW know they might have a very mad and injured loin on their hands.

I dont like killing animals either but its better than trying to swerve around them. Too easy to lose control. I drive alot at night and early in the morning in rural South Texas. Lots of rabbits, jackrabbits, raccoons, skunks, feral hogs and white tail deer. The little animals wont hurt anything but the bigger ones will. I've had a few close calls with deer and I just held the steering wheel tightly and braced myself but they were too quick.:yes2557::yes2557:

In all my years on the road (as a 4 wheeler and 18 wheeler) I have never seen a goat as road kill. I have seen wildlife of any kind, cows, sheep, horses, donkeys, pets, but never a goat... I would be interested to know whether you have ever seen a goat roadkill ..? I always thought that goats were too smart to stand in the road, but maybe my theory needs to be calibrated?!:smt017

Maybe a rarely used dirt road. My experience with goats is they don't stand around anywhere there isn't something to eat. And not a lot of things growing on pavement.

Not a clue. Nobody's ever said anything to me about it. Maybe she thought about what I had told her and chilled out.

I was going around chicago on the toll the other day. About a half dozen lanes on each side. Not a tree in site and the last thing I expected to see was a buck. The other thing that surpised me was that he did not just bolt across. He was turning his head left and right to wait till the coast was clear. I don't think he would have made it across.:biggrin_2556: He was standing on the shoulder deciding what to do.

My father hit a deer in PA with his cabover KW. He nailed it so directly that he was laid over for an amount of time while a shop installed a new engine and transmission. There wasn't a peice of meat left that was larger than a Tbone.
