I've been here almost 6 months and I've been running my assets off. The last few jobs I've had in my 5 years I usually make it three-six months (longest was 2 1/2 years) and then I'm out...here I can see myself making it past that mark. Your expirence may be different from mine, dispatch does not bother you, once you get a load it's yours (this transition of dispatch has made that iffy), equipment is nice and the maintenance department tries to stay up on issues.

Once you start learning our lanes you kinda get a feel for where you will get dispatched next (294 will be ur new home).

As far as home time I haven't had an issue to date getting home, I've been running hard since the weather is good. As far as west coast goes I've been out there 3 or 4 times. You won't too much catch me out there after October (btw I am from Michigan) just that Midwest driving is a different beast than west coast.

The worst would be the trucks going 63 mph....other than that I am content for now.

I'm not making any assumptions here, but my luck turned around completely when I started calling ahead as soon as I know where Im going. I'm already near 7k miles this month. I mean right as soon as I know where I'm going I call the next dispatcher. Its been an instant night and day difference once I started doing that. Also, if they start listing off options ill pick what I prefer. But if they just give one option and then wait for me to reply, them I just take it. I never say I won't do something our don't want to. Money!

Just saying because I had a really bad last few months... at least compared to how I started running when I got here. Now I'm back in the hustle! At least for the past 2 weeks I have been! Not that you need tips from me... But doing it this way is working wonders for me.

Thanks for the info! My comment about running north of I80 was if I have to run out that way. I go where the miles are! Really looking forward to running reefer again. Shaffer (where they'd have you live in the NE) and early on I drive for James T Gentry out of Shreveport to west and NW areas. Tony mentioned about the challenges with dispatch right now but hopefully thatll be straightened out.

A couple of quick questions...Do you guys run PrePass and EZPass? Do you get paid practical or short miles? I need to read through the thread later on. Just parked at Petro, Wheeler Ridge CA. And while I might miss running through or stopping in Vegas, I can handle not running CA/NV/AZ.

    Thanks again for info!!

    Prepass/easypass: Yep!
    We are paid practical miles.

Also, some people don't seem to get that our pay goes up or down based on performance. There is no "base pay". You may start at a higher rate as your starter pay due to experience. But once you're on performance pay... you're on performance pay! That starter rate means nothing at that point. But I don't mean to say that as a positive or negative. its just how it works.

Do you have different dispatchers for each part of the country?

    Yes we do!

Didn't know Nick had anything to do with pay (other than loads from his area)! I'm sure others more knowledgeable will chime in shortly.

Hmmm... if he said that specifically, it may be true... I think the bottom of the performance pay is .42. Is your starting pay lower than that? I know I started at .36 so that's true for me!
