My 1st year living down here (as an adult), we were hit by "the storm of the century" in March...it snowed (flurries).

Does anyone here use a nav system other than a garmin or rand unit, or an atlas? Thinking like one20 or copilot. Ive tested the copilot system and it seemed really nice other than it is a subscription, plus you download all of North America.
I wanted to get a dezl and a dash cam but due to cost, I think getting a note 8 might be better. My note 5 runs copilot and CamOnRoad nicely. Phone accessories are easily found, my note 5 is faster and more storage, and I'll have a second phone on me if anything should happen to my primary.
Ive just never used a garmin or a rand unit so I dont know if there is anything particularly beneficial to them over the latter. -
While I have always used the in truck nav, I'd say that I'm in the minority with drivers typically using either Garmin or Rand McNally truck nav's. You should always have an atlas handy too. My advice is to wait until after training and then make your mind up on the nav system you use. Lol after doing this for a couple of years I really use the nav more to count down miles vs actually getting to many destinations.
It's also helpful to have your phone mounted incapable way that allows you to have Google Maps up with the satellite view so you can see which gate to enter in or which way to turn in for the right setup.mattbh23, Zata40, Ray Strack and 1 other person Thank this. -

Well heck, if the peoplenet has copilot in them, assuming the nav system is already paid for and usable by the company?, that'll save me from needing it on my phone. That would free it up for a dash cam and the google maps / earth feature.
My trainer said we'll use google earth a lot to get an ideal of our receiver and plan that way. I plan on buying a rand atlas, laminated, but i wont be able to have that 'till I get home after upgrading. Im taking as little as possible during training for obvious reasons. -
The Nav system that’s built into the trucks touch screen is a garmin. I have ONE20 on my phone I like it gives traffic plus it also shows weather. But as with all it’s just a tool not to be completely trusted.

My new company Navistar LT came with an in dash Rand McNally. I have a Garmin Dezl 760. For the first month I used both of them just to see the difference. The routing seems to be close enough and I like not having something stuck in my windshield so I have removed the Garmin and am going with the Rand. I pretty much go to the same places but if I do get a new one I double check it against Goggle Maps. Rumor has it that my new Peoplenet will run through the Rand. It is going to be installed next week. We shall see.

I mostly like the nav systems as a tool for knowing traffic in advance. Its been amazing to get routed around accidents and knock off 20-30 minutes of waiting.
