I've worked in an office out of high school, worked as an unofficial assistant manager of a warehouse/plant for a multimillion dollar tuxedo company, was a yard guy for a chicken plant (which was a Dirty Harry type job, got every dirty job in the book)...then became a truck driver...of them all, my early days as a truck driver were the best, even now, I still wouldn't trade my joy filled (o_O) life for any office job.

I don't work an office job and frankly when they leave early it is none of my business nor do I care. They may have a sick kid or something else personal to tend to. It affects me none, at least they send me a courtesy and let me know they will be out. If people worried about themselves more than others, things would go so much better.

What ya' mean, mind our own business? That wouldn't be any fun!!!:biggrin_2557::biggrin_2553:--:)--(haha)

I started to say something about all the early departures and days off a few pages back, but the same thought occured to me as what you posted. We don't know what's going on in their world up there. Sick family member, doctor visit, training outside the office to help make things run smoother...maybe even a limit on how much overtime they can earn (if they pay them that way). I spouted off at @xlsdraw years ago and he said something to me that still makes me think before I mouth off in areas like this...I don't know whats going on in a persons life beyond what is being posted here so how can I judge.

It bothered me at first, just because in my unit, you could be in the hospital and not have an excused absence. The only excused absence was with a doctor's note from your PCM, which required am appointment 2-3 weeks out. So thats what i was used to. And in the oilfield, everyone i worked with was also a vet, so #### just didn't change (except for the grooming standards), but then I realized that I'm a civilian now and not an NCO. So good for them for having the flexibility, many places don't care to give that to their employees.

Feel the same way bro. Took a little adjusting to this civilian thing but it's starting to grow on me.

Good on you both, transitioning into civilian life is difficult, especially for those with long service times.

Yeah, being surrounded by a bunch of 0311 may have made the transition easier, but maybe not the way a transition back to civilian life should be. We all prided ourselves on our dysfunctionality. In many ways, I felt more at home there and more camaraderie than I ever did while I was in.

So I learned something about the 8-2 split today that I didn't know, after you do your 8 , drive, and go into your 2, after the two hours it starts counting the remainder of your clock down. Lesson learned, I've used just the 8 before but I have never incorporated the 2.

And got to mission foods in Goldsboro, NC 2 hours early, two late trucks and I'm getting loaded. Down East truck stop after this and bed time. Got up yesterday at 530 to deliver and got 2, two hour naps in between then and now. This dude is whooped.
