And...having said all that, I only made 560 miles today. Which really ticks me off, but I was just getting too sleepy to push that extra 60 miles for a shaky final stopping point. Usually don't have an issue sleeping on the road, but last night I got MAYBE 41/2 hours of sleep and couldn't get BACK to sleep. I HATE making less than 620 miles a day if they are there to make. Makes me feel like I didn't do my job.
Anyone else feel that way?
I really dig being an OTR driver. Miles isn't just about my paycheck, it's a concrete measure of my performance on the day. It's one of the things I like about this job. Look at the miles and you know your performance. Look at your on-time deliveries/pickups and same. It's immediate feedback, which is very good for a short attention-span guy like me.
I took one 10-minute stop today other than my 30. Usually I figure 2 15's plus my 30 and it's roughly 12 hours of work for 11 hours driving +/- based on parking. for a 12-hour day. Obviously more when I load.
Anyone else have any mileage or other performance-based measures that make you feel good/bad about how well you did your job for the day?

Good luck with the Chad talk, with Paul's untimely passing some of the changes that Chad mentioned Magnum has been working on have not made much progress, short loads were one of the areas that everyone agrees needs to be changed so it will be interesting to hear what he comes back to you with.
Hopefully your ave miles over the trimester meets your goal, I keep my focus there and deal with the fluctuations in milage so long as over the period I'm getting or appear to be on track to get the miles needed.
Lots of frustrations in driving vs other jobs, but it still beats corporate management - except for the pay of coursetallinthesaddle4life and ncmickey Thank this. -
Sorry I didn't have a chance to catch you @supersnackbar. By the time I knew you were in the yard I was in bed.
I suspect you were the feller talking when I went into the drivers lounge with your back toward the door??? Dunno just a guess.
You couldn't have missed the 300lb pure hunk of a man / sex object that I am when I walked in!Xeres63 Thanks this. -
Could that be why your miles are low?
Or maybe they think because you're splitting that you won't be able to do longer runs?
Not trying to accuse just serious questions.Last edited: May 5, 2016

Making my drop in Champlin, MN. Then picking up in Willmar headed to Washington. Taking the load @supersnackbar graciously let me have!
Thanks for that by the way. I have been wanting to head way out west thru Montana. Gonna be a nice run!tucker Thanks this. -

Load wasn't ready, so, if and when I finally get out of Chicago, 900 miles for the week, 3 layover days and missing my hometime.
Trainee is getting screwed too. Can't get him back to Fargo to get in a truck in time to catch the good load to NC we had lined up.
Gotta just file it all under stuff happens and carry on, nature of the beast. Stupid shippers...WalterSobchak Thanks this. -
No you won't. -
Hitting a few bumps today.
Whoever the jackrabbit that dropped this trailer off needs a good kick in the nuts.
