Sitting in Jamestown now. Miles City MT great place to unload out in about 30 minutes. Standing there watching them unload and the yellow lab walks up with a ball drops it at my feet and starts whining. I ended up throwing the ball to the dog the entire time I was there playing fetch
When they finished unloading me the guy told the dog that she was done and go lay down
She ran over to the building and laid down.

Haven't officially decided on flatbed, not sure I want to train with someone to learn to secure and tarp. There is a semi-regional place that grosses the same as what I average here, away from home only a night or two and home on the weekend, just have to fingerprint more freight.

You would love going there. Two dudes taking turns in and out the back door. One would be pulling out and the other was ready to go in. In and out, in and out, until they finished, which is really quick.

It seems to be industry wide regardless of whether or not the company is a training company. I was talking to a driver just this week who works for a mid size company based here in NC that only hires drivers with a minimum of 2 years otr experience. Even they have the various safety systems and also driver facing cameras now. For me personally, a driver facing camera would be the deal breaker. It's not even because of doing things I shouldnt. I don't text and drive. I use a bluetooth headset and voice commands on my phone and gps. I wear pants when I drive most of the time. My vocal rendition of The Cranberries songs "Zombie" and "Dreams" are epic. My vocal rendition of Jerry Reed "Eastbound and down", even more epic... I just can't stand the thought of a camera pointed right at me in the truck.

Found the "Driver of the Month" today in Linwood NC. I went to scale at Bills TS. There was a truck blocking the scale. I waited a few minutes then went and knocked on the cab. No answer. I called the ts and asked them to page the driver to move his truck. They couldn't find him so they sent 2 mechanics to find him. They knocked on the cab then 1 of them opened the door, got in and moved the truck. I scaled & went in. Saw a driver coming from the shower area. I asked him if he drove that truck & he said yeah why? I said you were blocking the scale...oh really? Yeah really. Where's my truck at??? I said the mechanics moved it over there...Why??? You were blocking the scale...oh and btw you need to latch your driver's side door on your trailer....why??? Cause it's unlatched... Long story I know but how dumb can you be? Apparently he answered that for me....

The insurance industry will have more of a say on cameras than FMCSA, they are forcing carriers to implement safety systems as a way to maintain lower premiums and as we know it's really about the bottom line.

Interestingly when airline pilots who today have flight recorders on board were told the NTSB recommended cameras on the flight deck they threatened to strike and the matter was quickly put on the shelf. It's about leverage...wish we had more.

BTW, the next time we're in a call I'm gonna want to hear some Cranberries lol. :)

Driver facing cameras would make me too uncomfortable. I'd be looking for another job.
