With 6 years experience there's plenty of good paying jobs for you, especially if you have all the endorsements.

How about a salary comparison between companies that do Walmart dedicated? Swift, Crete, Marten, etc. How much can you realistically expect to earn?

If you live near Atlanta, look at this company:
    ~
    DRIVERS - cmitrucking.com
    cmitrucking.com/drivers.html
Our teams can earn up to $125,000 per year for each driver in the team. Our Secondary (drivers in training) can earn up to $50,000 per year. Our average length of service for our drivers is 6 years and 3 months. …

201, I agree with most of the gist of your post, however...

I thought Walmart was trying to expand their private fleet? They went through that situation a few years ago and maybe learned their lesson?

Well, I suppose they just need to move such a volume of freight that they will continue to pursue all options (in house and outsourcing) for the foreseeable future...

CRE has been pulling Safeway out of Denver for about 2 yrs now, it's only certain routes that they can't self service (no sleepers and they refuse to buy any), mostly Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska and the Dakota's. I talked to one of the drivers recently who said the route sucks, they constantly are being pressured to run hard, and then when forced to shut down due to Wyoming weather, they get yelled out for not finding an alternative route.

CR England services Walmart & Sams Club here in Las Vegas. They use sleeper trucks and the trucks are immaculate as if they just rolled off the showroom floor.

My buddy works out of Brundidge, AL DC and shares some of the same opinions about Walmart. He told me last week the money ain't whats advertised. He looked at it as "just another trucking company." I am not so sure he's in a bad situation though. He told me the insurance and benefits are tough to beat. Then he's making what a typical OTR driver makes but traveling shorter distances, and they get paid for every action, delay, weekend, etc. Something interesting he told me: however much money he makes at his terminal is based on the board he's on. His terminal manager told him if he wanted to make more he'd have to refrigerated. They divide it up to where it's frozen/dairy or meat/produce. That's in higher demand because most of their drivers don't like to fool with the reefer. They only want to do the dry. His manager said you wont find a shortage of guys willing to do dry freight and pulling dry vans dont have the best paying runs, at least out of that DC. He's about to get a pay increase because he's going to switch to refrigerated freight on a more permanent basis. That would have been my move from jump. For those dedicated drivers, I do think they should consider driving for Walmart. Then you'll be guaranteed that amount of money at minimum without really having to work more than 5 or 6 days at a time. That way they can get the 5 on 2 off schedule or 6 on 3 off schedule.
