Plus dark hair is more likely to catch cocaine particles than light hair. Guess which group of people that adversely affects? Something as simple as handling a dollar bill then touching one's hair has shown to cause false positives.

If you do drugs tonight and they call you in for a random hair test tomorrow, last night's use won't show up anyway. But it would with a UA. Nothing wrong with smoking a doob on your off time when you are not driving soon. Better than the guy that gets hammered drinking and is legally ok to drive with that hangover.
As far as pot use, it will, at some point be made legal by the feds. The FMCSA will not relax their rules though until, first, a standard is set on how much is too much. Like the .04 for us and .08 for cars drivers is for alcohol. And second, until an inexpensive, accurate apparatus for roadside testing is developed and been through the courts.homeskillet and Northern Nomad Thank this. -

Maybe a dumb question, but what other industries have such strict drug testing and background check policies?
To get the Hazmat endorsement there's a few disqualifiers, down to domestic abuse etc. Same for TWIC I believe.
Random drug testing - makes sense . . . point is - we're viewed as degenerates by the general population, yet if we have endorsements and hoops to jump through, most truckers have to be pretty much model citizens. Just to drive a dumb truck.
Airline pilots? Train conductors? Politicians (Ok forget that last one)

What the big companies who use hair tests are reporting is that pot is not the problem. It's opiates, methamphetamine and cocaine. The question isn't about the tired question of pot. It's about what to do about users of hard drugs who can test clean on a UA two days after using. I think it's a reasonable question.

Here is a paper written by the Duke University Pharmacology Education Partnership on the topic.
Module 2: Drug Testing: A Hair-Brained Idea! – PEP
The jury is still out on whether there is an inherent bias against POC in this drug testing regimen.
But if there any "reasonable doubt", I don't think it has a chance in this very politicized world. -
Caffeine and nicotine are drugs also.
And while we are at it your cholesterol is high. No more cheese burger for you.
