First of all the scam is being forced to go to the companies "self based" sleep apnea test. If it is anything OTHER than a true, sleep apnea test that is NOT done by a doctor paid by the company, it is not going to come out anything other than a benefit for the company.

A true sleep apnea test is done at a CONTROLLED SLEEP APNEA FACILITY!!! It is NOT done with a "monitor", done in a hotel, or done in a doctors office. There are multiple wires hooked up to your body to track brain activity as well as body functions during your sleeping period. Another way they get you is telling you that "you can ONLY sleep certain positions" which is total and utter BS! I had to get one of these done in the Army after I got back from Iraq because I could not sleep right and they wanted to see if I had it.

Getting it done PROPERLY is NOTHING compared to what BS test MARTEN does!
First of all, you are wrong. If you have sleep apnea, yes it can be taken off as an active condition, BUT will remain in your record as a PAST medical issue with an improvement. If your condition does IMPROVE, you do NOT have to keep on breathing like "Darth Vader" for the rest of your life.

Are you kidding me? You obvious have done NO homework or background before you posted this! There are specific facilities that a proper sleep study MUST be done in, in order for it to be a true test! NOBODY can "self diagnose" sleep apnea since it is a "disorder" that restricts you from falling in to a deeper sleep allowing you not to get a "full rest". Telling someone that you can self diagnose just because they are "tired" is like telling someone you can self diagnose themselves with diabetes just because they have green eyes, you can't and it makes no freaking sense! Proper monitoring of your brain activity and ALL body functions during sleep is the ONLY way to monitor it to diagnose you! You also have to lay in a COMFORTABLE position or else your body will not relax enough to allow you to fall in to a deep sleep to see if you stop breathing!

I swear some people just come on here and not do any homework before going on and on and on about something. I truly think that companies like MARTEN should be shut down from testing or hiring their own doctor to test. I think that should go for ANY large company! If they want their employees to get properly tested for this disorder they need to pay for the PROPER testing and NOT some company paid "hotel" version or self administered heart rate monitor! It is crazy and a very VERY cheap way of doing things just to screw the driver in to staying with that company for awhile because than they are "too scared" to go to a different company with that on their record (hearing all the dag gone horror stories from other drivers out there)!

I wish you guys the best in your search, but this was ONE HUGE reason why I did not come to this company. I just could not fathom going to a company that forces this disorder on ANY driver like this!

    Stay safe out there drivers!

But what do they have to gain from it? If you are diagnosed with it, it's all free of charge. How does this benefit them?

Yes it is free of charge, but have you ever herd of kick back from medical supply companies and facilities? Lets say that they use 1 specific medical company to get their testing kits and their machines from. If they "sell" a certain number of them, or in other words get a doctor to use a certain number of those machines that company can receive "gifts" for helping them gain those sales. It is all a big insurance/profit game when it comes to this situation. Any way that a company can make a dollar, they are now a days. Seriously though. Go into ANY major company, look at their financial security. Show me 1 large trucking company that is free of debt (everything from trucks to facilities), that charges or participates in ANY sleep apnea program... I bet you that you could not name 1.

Now, you will not see lets say mid sized companies running anything of the sort when it comes to this sleep apnea crap because they are not on a scale to profit from it as much as these huge companies.

In the end, ultimately who is the one that has to suffer? it is not the company, but the driver that has to battle an uphill battle just because a company wants to profit from that drivers supposed "disorder". That is how it is a scam. I scam does not have to be just a one sided financial gain, it can be a gain in any aspect of the word! It is just utter BS, they need to stop playing this game and just do it the right way or not do it at all, is my opinion because they are ruining drivers careers and motivation by doing this.

Unless you can prove a kick back, then it's just assumptions.

regardless if there is some kick back, marten is still out of pocket on the tests and machines. Not the driver. If there was some scheme for it then every single person they test would be positive. Which isn't the case. I tested negative.

Jesus, there is no arguing here, its a one sided argument apparently, which i will let you win after this post.

Okay, well if we are playing that game, you can NOT prove that they do not get a kick back, now can you? No they won't test every person positive, because than they would be flagged and that doctor would be flagged for malpractice because of money making schemes on not utilizing proper medical testing (which if enough people actually reported him to the board of medicine for, he could get in trouble already).

You sir do not have any experience with any medical facilities or how medical equipment ordering goes, so if you want to argue about it, I would do some homework first. The same way you were trying to say the ONLY way to be diagnosed for it is to "self diagnose" because one person is "sleepy"... lol. I am sure that we would be ALL delighted in where you found your research to show that the ONLY way someone can be diagnosed is for someone to recognize when they are "drowsy" all the time.

Did you know drowsiness is a symptom in diabetes, high and low BP, High cholesterol, and even some heart diseases/disorders as well? So under your THEORY, I guess every driver is almost bound to have every disease/disorder under the sun! I would be happy to see where you found that information out so I can pass it on to my other EMT's/Paramedics at the fire house and the physicians at the hospital in which we operate our emergency medical response under!

Never once did I say it was self diagnosed.

You should get your facts straight.

people dont seem to realize its not a Marten thing especially now, outside doctors are now forcing the test if you fail neck size or bmi. There are a lot of drivers out there who DO have it but ignore it and refuse to accept it, because of all those its being forced for others to get checked these days.

I have sleep apnea but chose to get tested and treated before I ever began driving a couple years ago and I was one who refused to believe I had it until my wife forced me to go get it done. Once I started getting treated I was finally able to get enough sleep, started losing the weight easier etc and as time goes along it does improve.

I think its a good thing if more drivers are tested as long as its done legitimately.

I agree that the only way to properly diagnose sleep apnea is with an sleep study test.

Those are expensive - about $5,000 a pop.

Instead, companies are doing B.S. diagnosis methods like neck measurements and then using BMI to assign a medical diagnosis that is inaccurate and will stick with you forever.
