As I have said before..if you do your job here you will be fine. I have a pet and I have gone over the idle time quite a few times. but I still try to keep it reasonable.. use common sense. The company is out to make a profit..its not a charity.

Let the truth prevail. Here are my miles with the trip end dates all the way back to 4-11-2017
    4 11 1062
    4 13 445
    4 15 649
    4 19 2319
    4 20 399
    4 26 1581
    4 28 858
    5 3 607
    5 5 603
    5 09 1440
    5 12 936
    5 15 1057
    5 16 356
    5 19 855
    5 23 810
    5 29 2140
    6 2 1441
    6 3 703
    6 5 283
    6 9 1482

    That's 18,554 miles in 2 months. So 18,554 miles divided by 8 weeks= 2,318 average miles/wk

23,613 miles in same period with 11 days off. 2952 average including days off. Actually running over 3400 a week, and on those nasty old Elogs that you can get any miles with.

    :)

23,613 miles divided by 8 weeks = 2,951.625 miles per week, almost 3,000 miles per week.

    That is fantastically excellent.

From the looks of things, an OTR truck driver driving for May, if he or she plays his or her cards right, is able to get decent miles and earn a fairly decent living.

Yeah, if you do your job and manage your time well, you won't have any issues with miles. Pay varies on your experience. I'm at .45 when solo, .55 when I train which is VERY RARE.

I actually get better miles by myself (the 23k above was by myself) because I don't have to take twice as long doing everything due to having to show them how to do it.

Seriously thinking of going to May trucking, but this idle policy has me hesitant. After my training, my wife and dog will be with me. WILL they let me idle to keep them comfortable? WILL I get charged? Thanks for any replies.

Don't forget, company idle policy or not, many States and municipalities have strict ordinances against CMV idling. With your wife and woofer with you, you may want to opt for a company that has APUs in their rigs.
