Am I misreading something here, May is going to take someone fresh out of a CDL school where you're basically taught just what you need to do to pass the tests, put them with a trainer for one week, then turn them loose on their own? And people are considering doing this? That's insanity.

You're taking it personally, don't. Stand back and consider things from the outside looking in. The thing I realized the day I passed my CDL test was that I really didn't know anything yet in terms of real life driving, and nothing of all the other stuff in the job that isn't driving. Is everyone as stupid and hard to train as me? Nope, not by a long shot, there are a lot of people way better that required less, and there are a lot of people worse that required more.

Can it be done? Sure. @TexasRiverRat posted earlier in this thread that he survived doing it straight out of school, but he also said it wasn't the best scenario either. I'd say overall the odds are greatly against it, Maybe I'm full of ####, it wouldn't be the first time. Faith may be able to move mountains, but it can't replace good training, and good training can't be done in a week.

What I see is someone who wants to be here, who wants to drive, who has the best of intentions, and is setting herself (I'm sorry if I assumed your gender incorrectly, I'm just going by your name and avatar photo) up for failure. There just has to be an option out there with a company that will value your employment, your safety, and their equipment more than to stick you in a truck for 3000 miles, if that, over 7 days with a total stranger and then say "That's it, did great, vaya con dios!

Keep looking. Please. As I said before, this is insanity. You deserve better.

the way read it as follows:

    everyday working/available $120

so monthly for be availe 25 days would be 25*120 = $3000

‘you earn mileage pay of $0.41 * miles in the month

    say 10,000 miles so 10000*0.41= $4100

they will pay you $4100 ( your mileage greater than the daily guarantee)

if you say only did 5000 miles

    .41*5000=$2050

and were available 25 days ($3000 see above math)

you would be paid - $3000 (guarantee greater than mileage)

they appear to want to reconcile monthly rather than weekly, but will pay the daily guarantee weekly possibly ( not enough info on pay periods)

Don’t add the pay groups together - no one is going to pay a trainee $7100 in a month for driving 10,000 miles (effective pay of $0.71/mile)

    hope this helps you understand

    It's a bit confusing but I sort of remember it now. 120 is based on if u get roughly 2050 miles a week. .41cpm x 2050= 840 a week 840÷7days =120 a day.
If you were to get 2500 miles a week thats 1020 ÷7 days that's 146 a day. They would pay you the difference over 120 a day for that week 26 a day for a total of and 186 more for that week and your overage total for that month. In the real world with May you when it all comes.down to it you might make 3 or 400 more dollars a month than the base rate your are given. This is why I was on CPM there..the base rate seemed confusing and I kept up with my miles and knew what I was getting. You will get experience there, they are decent, I was there 5 years, but there is a lot better money out there. They are one of the better starter companies, do a year or so and move on.

I suggest you get clarification on this. I think Rontonio is reading it correctly, that the $120 is a minimum, but if you drive 300 miles, at 41 cpm you get only 300*.41 = $123, not $243.

    DonRobbie Thanks this.
