Mr. RevKev: I appreciate all the insight you've been giving us on MTL. I would have to talk to a recruiter about my tattoos (they're all military themed but cover both arms, hands and knuckles). Nothing degrading or "gang" style or anything. 1 is the POW/MIA emblem, I'm sure MTL wouldn't go against that one. The question I have is: Do you know if they are GI Bill friendly? I have the Post 9/11 GI Bill to use before 2018, but it's getting harder to find good companies out there that are enrolled in using it for OJT. If you don't know, that's fine I can contact a recruiter. Just figured I'd pick your brain. Have a great and safe weekend/holiday season!

I'm afraid I really don't know the answer to that, but I'd be surprised if they're not GI Bill & military friendly. I looked thru their website & couldn't find anything on it, so as you said, probably just need to speak to a recruiter. Wish you all the best in hour search, and have a very Merry Christmas!

Oh the old man is too sly to be direct. They cant impose religion in the workplace but they can impose their Christian morality and "values" all they want. Tattoos are frowned upon as is longer hair on men. I dont have visible tattoos but when I hired in I had a short ponytail that wouldn't touch the collar on a polo shirt. The old man shook my hand with a smile then motioned the instructor over for a whisper. Later I was told by the instructor that I had to cut it. Of course the recruiter didnt mention a thing when I interviewed with my hair NOT in a ponytail. They made one exception to this rule for an older driver in Nashville who had written a song or two. Kinda B.S. And dont DARE bobtail, theres a tattletale system in place. I didnt mesh w/the McElroy way so went my own way.

just wondering why do they send you to a hospital and draw blood ? and I have a tats on my shoulder that can be covered up with a short sleeve shirt would that be ok also if your accepted at orientation and you drive your own vehicle there would they reimburse you of the cost of gas to get there ? do they pay weekly or every two weeks? if your sent home from orientation do they still pay you for your time there? also how much exp does there trainers have will they let someone with just a few months exp themselves train ya

Silverdrifter, I can address some of your questions. Don't worry about your tat. Sounds like it'll never be seen anyway. When I went thru training at MTL one of my fellow trainees had tats that wrapped around his forearm & came down the back of his hand. Next month will mark his one-year anniversary at McElroy.
As for trainers & their experience level, mine had been with McElroy for a year before he became a trainer. I'm not exactly sure or company policy, but a couple drivers told me if a driver had been out in his own assigned truck for eight months, no incidents, good record, etc, etc, he could be considered for trainer. Whether that's long enough for somebody to be training a new driver right out of CDL school is obviously debatable. However, it is long enough to train someone on how to secure the loads, deal with shippers & consignees, etc. There a lot of trainers that have many years of experience.
Unless something has changed, they pay weekly on Fridays. How much or if someone gets paid if they leave orientation early, I really don't know. If I remember correctly, they reimburse you for mileage if you take your own vehicle to orientation, to & from.silverdrifter Thanks this. -
cool thanks RevKev I got a call from a McElroy today they talked promising on the phone said they would put me down for orientation on march 24 or 27 . I don't graduate school till march 13th and my instructor told me it would be about a week after graduating before we took our actual cdl test . Then after that it would probably be about a week after that before I got my hard copy of my cdl license .So I might have to wait till the beginning of April if offered to come to orientation. I'm thinking as long as my job history and background come out ok which I don't see why it wouldn't because I told them everything on the phone I should be offered orientation they told me to call back in about a week and I would know for sure. I'm excited about my new career I love to drive and ride and I don't mind hard work at all. I workout 4 days a week and walk 2.5 miles a day on days I don't workout so the physical part of the job should be no problem at all for me .Also I know they say your home on weekends but I wouldn't mind staying out 2 or 3 weeks at time then maybe coming home for a few days

Another week after taking your CDL test to get your actual license??? Must be a GA thing. When I tested last February 1st, my instructor filled out the necessary forms, sealed them in an envelope, I went to the DMV, & got my license.
Yeah, MTL drivers are home every weekend...usually. While I was with them there were a few times we'd get a message asking guys who were willing to stay out 2-4 weeks to make runs from Nashville, AR up into north TX & OK. They loads of drywall. They'd pay the usual mileage pay, plus an extra $100 for running on Saturday. Not a bad deal when it's available.
