Any update? How was the training? Did you get your own truck yet? I fly out to Tulsa tomorrow.

I drove for Melton VERY briefly when I was new (10 years ago). They may have tweaked their process over that time or it might be the same, who knows. But, it was good, hands on training when I was there. In addition, you'll go out with a trainer for a couple of weeks. I didn't have to do that because they considered me an experienced driver. Also, they gave me a binder that had step by step instructions for all of the types of loads they carried and it included pictures for illustration. I didn't stay very long but it had nothing to do with Melton. I liked them fine. I just didn't like flatbed.

Yes. I actually went to orientation a week later on the tenth. Im about a week and a half on my trainers truck. Like Frank Speak said.... first 2 weeks is in tulsa learning securement with straps and chains and tarping. Very hands on with different types of loads on trailers set up in their yards. 3rd week is kind of waiting on a trainer. I only waited 2 days. First day you go straight to medical for hair and pee test and blood pressure. Then they have a little physical fitness test to make sure you can pick up the tarps, etc. Very easy. We had 4 women in my group and they all did it. So far so good.

What is your reason for staying away from Maverick? I haven't heard anything bad about them.

When I worked for Melton, my training was only 3 days long in Birmingham, AL. One of the days was strictly administrative BS, and the other 2 days were actual theory and practice. I had never run flatbed before, so I thought that this was kind of shady. I left their training feeling unprepared. My second month there I made Top 100 for the month (# 87 out of 1378 drivers). By the end of my 3rd month I was fired because I went off on my DM! I posted the story here somewhere, it's pretty funny but eye-opening. I have MANY Melton stories, but I really don't want to bad-mouth them here in a public forum. All I can tell you is: Caveat Emptor.
