Good evening, not that you were bashing Mercer I just MANY good things about them. If you don't mind, who are you affiliated with now. I want to join the ranks of o/o, but.......you guys scare me with bad ranking of companies. The company world is not always glamorious either.!

The "first in, first out" policy isn't exactly true. Just from a little exeperience here at Mercer hearing all the "retired" tourist types with the big houses brag about lining loads up days in advance. Not fun when your in upstate NY and number 50 on the board. You sit and the chosen ones are gone like the wind.

All due respect to your experience here at Mercer. I have been leased on since Oct 1 2012 and I haven't had any experience like yours or even close.

I'm going to share mine so if anyone here is interested in Mercer they can have more information.

I don't have any friends at Mercer. My truck number is 13741.
On day 1, I got a load out of Louisville, KY (which is where everyone starts from) to home by Charlotte, NC. I waited 1 hour from the time I was available 1400 on a Friday. The first week I had the FI FO mentality so i only looked for loads when I emptied. From solely reading on this forum I learned I could book in advance. From week 2 til this past Friday. I was dispatched on 2-3 loads at a minimum at anytime. I never sat unless I chose to. I just started telling agents that I only want this load if I get that other load leaving that area. And holy ###### they said ok. And it happened where I didn't get that load leaving and they let me off the hook. Because I'm new, my coordinator looks out for me and lets me know if I'm gonna screw myself by going to a bad area and that's that. I don't go.
It's so tempting to take a load like I saw today from here to Cali. pays 4400. So tempting! But I'm going to resist because I'm told I will definitely sit. I already tried to book a load before I took one to cali once already and I was told it didn't run the board yet and there was 4 committed already. So I will stay away.
I have seen loads hit and disappear before I can hit the button so I call my coordinator to see who got it and where they were in line because I wanted to make sure there wasn't any zip code truck or chosen one stuff going on. So far I haven't caught anyone yet. I caught a 4 cent mistake and made the agent pay me. So trust me, I would find someone cutting me in line and I would post it.
I can't see me going anywhere. Mercer has been good to me.

Been at Mercer 6 years, great company if you want to stay out on the road, when I first started there, I could get home, but now lots of canceled trips, and if you go to the southeast, florida, or the northeast you will be hard pressed to get a load out!

Hi, Do you even know what a zip code truck is at MERCER???? It's a truck with 5 digits in the truck number. What the Hell does this have to do with getting a load????

Here is the plain and painful truth in my opinion. I just don't have patience for meat heads today so I will just be honest.
I'm a self reliant person/trucker. I'm a doer. Not a thinker. Doers do both think and then do! I don't sit and cry about something someone else may be doing that isn't fair. In fact when I do see something like that happen it makes me work harder!
I frankly look down on drivers that cry about "the 4 digit chosen ones". I couldn't care less about my truck number. I honestly and cold heartedly believe I couldn't do any better with a 4 digit number. I still don't sit unless I chose to which is home and I'm a zip code truck. boo freaking hoo.
Life isn't fair and life rewards the strong, smart, and aggressive.

I go to the northeast all the time and I get out with out sitting an hour! I live in the Southeast and I get loads with out effort. I never go past I-35. On top of that I don't use my coordinator! So y'all can take your 4 digit excuse and the rest of your reasons for sucking at getting loads and stick it. I brought in 6 guys and a few are doing better than I am and they are 141's. I'm far from broke I support a wife 3 kids and my oldest is starting at HPU this August 40k a year! I have 2 dogs a beautiful home with a mortgage and boat. Life is good if you're not an under achiever. I have an A type personality if haven't noticed. I don't care about chrome chicken lights blah blah waste of money stuff. Here's another monkey wrench for ya. Til 9/11/01 I was a financial adviser and when they blew up my office and killed my friends I didn't let myself go broke, I found other things to do. I've been self employed ever since and never once felt bad for myself. That's another dog eat dog industry and I ran 3 branches by that time. I started from the bottom and again, I had no friends in the business. A wet behind the ears stock broker dialing a phone.

Poor babies need favors to get loads. Time to flip burgers....

Save me the trucker wisdom. Just get out there and be a "DOER"!

What are you trying to say here?? You know other than ignorant remarks? You post something 7 months ago and what now it doesn't apply?? After rereading your "old" post it makes more sense, You're very inexperienced in the trucking industry, so you try to use terms that you've heard from someone else even though you have no clue what they refer to. "No friends at Mercer" ?? You got to be kidding, You sound like the kind of person a trucker could love, full of crap and confrontational at the drop of a hat!

I too no longer go out to the west coast. A 4-5000 dollar load doesn't look as good once you get there and have to sit 1-2 weeks to get a decent load out. I have been staying in the mid-west and south east and have been doing great. I have been keeping under a load with at least 1-2 more scheduled at all times. Run about 3-4 weeks and go home for 7-10 days. I saw someone with Landstar talking about all the Mercer trucks in Lodi at the hook. Yep, but I saw many Landstars sitting right there with us also. Before I leased on to Mercer I was a company driver with the burn to push my own truck. I set everything up, located truck, financing, etc. and talked to many drivers from many companies. The best and most consistantly favorable things I heard were from Mercer drivers. Unlike Flatbed22 I do use my coordinator. He knows what I want to do and the type of freight I am looking for and he finds it for me so I don't have to constantly be looking at the board. But whenever I stop I still go on and look to see if there is anything I really like. Am I getting rich. No, Uncle Sam sees to that. But I am providing for a wife and three daughters in college. Maybe that has something to do with the whole not getting rich thing too, ya think.
