You want a load that was refused? Just commit to it. Do that a few times and you will start training him/her.
You can commit to any loads you have the equipment for. Most my loads I never match up to. I do this on purpose so that my coordinator isn't refusing loads before I look at them. But him refusing a load means nothing to me. If I want a load I commit. If he changes that? Well then we have an issue...

Yup. You could even go a step further and pre plan yourself. As long as you can make pick up and delivery then commit to it. I'm only bold enough to do a week ahead but other guys here do two weeks pre plan. 70% of my loads I'm not matched to because I book em before my coordinator sets my preference for the next area. And if you really wanna step it up then don't use him/her at all except for fuel and such. If I'm sitting after I unloaded then it mean either I'm home or it cancels. Other than that I don't do no sitting. Especially when I leave the house and book the week I'm working and half the next on the same day I'm picking up the first load. I have booked 4 loads all in one day. That way I knew what I was doing for the rest of the week. @spyder7723 really explained to me how it goes. Might wanna PM him.

It really just comes down to being proactive and being decisive. To many guys get indecisive on a load hoping something better will come up. as soon as you are dispatched you should be looking at the destination and booking your best load.
relying on a coordinator is just foolish. They have forty trucks to look after, I got one. Doesn't take a brain surgeon to see I have a heck of a lot more time to dedicate to keeping my truck running than my coordinator does.Truckin_Texas91411, TaylorMade407, TruckerPete1990 and 1 other person Thank this. -

Also the only advantage to waiting is occasionally you might grab a high paying load off the spot market. It happens, but not often enough for me to risk making money now.
It's Tuesday and you deliver Thursday. There is a load picking up on Friday paying $1500 for the weekend. You wait hoping to find 2k+ for the weekend. Wednesday I see the $1500 load and grab it. Thursday comes but nothing better for you yet. Friday and everything hitting the board pays crap. Then a $2000 load hits for you on Friday, only one problem. Your #5 on the board. Guess what your doing for the weekend? While I took that 1500 and booked another 1500 for Monday.TruckerPete1990 and TaylorMade407 Thank this. -

I would like to add, with experience, a person gets better at this. You start to learn what loads will never get to you, and which ones probably will. Once you commit, you can not do anything until it's dispatched on you. So don't lock yourself into loads that are never gonna get to you. For example, you just got empty andyour number 6 on a 10k lb no tarp load going to Cincinnati for 1.90/mile that loss today, no way is five guys passing on that. but that load your sitting number 22 on one that requires four foot tarps and weighs 47k paying well over two bucks a mile? I got an eighty percent chance to get that. Goes up to about 99 percent if I'm booking a week out cause so many think something lighter or no tarp will come up. Same applies to that light gravy load, if it's a week out I can get it only cause so many don't plan ahead.

My husband is calling Mercer to check in because they updated his app on that Tenstreet app thing. He's at 75% now, lol. I told him to ask about the weight on trailers, both flat and van.
He also got a call from Jones Motor this morning. They are trying to get him scheduled for a drug test and then they can get him signed up for orientation. Mercer is still our top choice, but depending on the wait there, Jones Motor is now our back up plan instead of Celadon. -
You know, if I didn't have to start making my way back east soon to pick up my new truck. I might have just stayed out west here and tweaked my runs just a hair. This has turned pretty profitable out here and I see ways to improve. Darn new truck! Suppose to save me money not make me leave money on the table. Lol
