Basic, honest truth: Running a business is running a business. You learn all you can about the particulars of what you are doing. You research. You understand all the variables. We do know how to run a truck after 3 1/2 years. The difference now? Dispatching ourselves.

Yall are gunna dispatch yourselves at Mercer, pulling a VAN?!?!?!? I highly recommend you don't do that for awhile. Just because you see the load board doesn't mean you know the lanes here. I'm not saying you can't dispatch yourself here pulling a van, I do it all the time. But I learned the lanes 1st & learned the system. 99% of the vans that fail here are because they think they know everything about trucking and about Mercer. Learn the way 1st before you go out trying to do your own thing.

Feel free to blow me off about this, but Im pretty sure I know what I'm talking about when it comes to the van side. Please don't mistake this as me being ####y or attacking you. I simply don't want yall to come here and fail & then say it can't be done or its Mercer's fault.

We will be using all resources available to us. We totally understand there will be a learning curve. Known that all along. Using the tools available is part of being successful. I am not blowing you or or calling you ####y. And we know that it's on us.

Straps & crowbar & hammer for forklift loads. That's basically it as far as equipment. At least 12 straps if not 16.

What I am going to post concerns my post of yesterday, I did something that I know not to do and what I caution others not to do. I mixed in personal concerns and emotions with business concerns. The two don't mix well to me. Yesterday morning , something I had found out the evening before had me in a flux and off my game a bit. I found out the evening before my wife needs a new medication for her rheumatoid arthritis. That costs 3,264.00 a month. I apparently was in " oh crap, how are we gonna swing this with 2 kids in college", mode. I slept and m back on course this morning. So now, I m back in action. This made think about trucker Pete. A while back , he and his wife had a event in their life, he didn't fold up shop, he has kept plugging away. Pete, the very advice i gave you then, I failed to heed myself. Those posts. Came back to me last night, so Pete you helped this old dog get the train back on the rails. Thanks for that. PeIe, you have had all sorts of things dealing with since you came here, but you seem like you have kept positive, deal with it and move forward. The things I strive to do. we get battle hardened. And numb to things . Pete, is my hero.

The 2290 is heavy use tax paid to the IRS. You can do it online, mercer has a setup for this. But in getting a quality lease truck you can't do it ahead as you need serial number, etc. It will be prorated now because it runs from July to June its 550 a year , so if you pay it , around 275 now, but it may be in the lease price, when are you picking up a truck?
