Go back about a year and you'll see "to be published next month" ... don't hold your breath on anything the feds undertake. How many years did they work on the ELD rule, then have to rewrite it, and it still may face legal challenges.

And if speed limiting trucks would make the roads that much safer, why not restrict all vehicles? Oh, wait, the general public would never stand for that, freedom or some such argument that doesn't apply to us anymore.

Absolutely. I think it's nearing four years at this point. Just like elds, it is inevitable, once the govt crosshairs zero in on something it's all over but the crying. Lol.

It would be the other way around...

What's gonna run trucking in the ground is that mandatory e-log crap in 2017.
I know of several drivers who are making this last year of trucking count because they are selling out next year due to the e logs.

"More than half of the fleet is currently on an ELD" I read this to say, almost half the fleet is paper. Even with the free install and all new trucks required to get the ELD.

This tells me, the turn over rate for our old trucks is very low. It also tells me, come June 30????????????????????? who knows.

There could be a lot of freight to choose from come July 1

I've thought that might be the case, but then it's just one of those things that happens. When I first got them I said I'm quitting, forget this crap and all that but 5 years later I'm still doing it. Lots of talk and bluster but these guys aren't going anywhere.

Oh you took one of those? I'm not touching that this year. Way to many snow storms for me to even risk it. But it might just work out for you. Let us know.
I don't think as many people will be turning in their keys as you think. Too many die hard "I'll never run Elogs" people have made the switch and come back to say "they really are not that bad". But time will tell. A year ago Mercer didn't have an age limit on the trucks that could lease on. Now they do, how long before they stop grandfathering in the 4 digest midgets? The writing is on the wall.

    I
Yea that dreadful june30 topic has been floating around the drivers lounge like the flu virus. Lol.
To be honest I don't know how some of the guys are gonna pull it off...I met one guy on last week when I met my coordinator he was telling me that he doesn't even know what mercer's load board looks like let alone tryin to run a ELD system lol. All his loads come strictly from his coordinator an he said things may change in June an he's been there 21 years.
