Florida is a whole other animal when it comes to length. Lol. They wrote my buddy about 4 tickets in his hotshot dually pulling a 48ft gooseneck.
Over 75ft long I think

I wasn't sure. I have been told you couldn't overhang at all without a permit on a 53 flat. Never pulled one, but have looked at them.

Not trying to be a ball buster here, but the office really had no choice but to give him a ticket. It's a simple black and white issue. No grey area at all to give an officer the discretion to issue a warning instead of a ticket.
the info for each state is readily available for anyone that has even half a desire to find it. In fact it's just inside the first few pages of any motor carrier atlas. If you're going to be in trucking, it's your responsibility to know the laws and regulations of each jurisdiction you do business in.
Sorry for the rant. It's a huge deal to me. Most drivers rant and rave about how they are professional truck drivers and should be treated as a professional, and yet they constantly drop the ball and fall well short of professional standards. They claim ignorance of the law, or simply willfully violate it.
In every single professional occupation that behavior would never be tolerated. A doctor would have his license revoked, an attorney or judge would be disbarred. A pilot would lose his wings. Etc etc.RStewart, mtoo, roshea and 1 other person Thank this. -
I started out when the length law was 55', truck and trailer combined. The old cab over in my avitar was 11 1/2" too long with a 45' trailer. Georgia used to set up in the rest areas and do nothing but stand there with a tape measure. I donated money to them a few times.
One time they had about 40 trucks pulled over to the side. They had two big vans hauling drivers back and forth to the Carnesville jail to pay the fine. One driver was ticked and asked the judge what would happen to him if he didn't pay the ticket. The judges desk was in the jail. He pointed to one of the cells and said he could rest in there until he decided to pay.
Everyone had their money out to pay after that.mtoo and taxihacker66 Thank this. -
In other words: trucking all together has gone down the toilet...from the e logs all the way down to the points system.
I predict in 15 years you'll come out better going to Med school versus applying for a cdl -
Almost 1/3 times I rolled cross the scales with a long load they brought out the measuring tape.... Well the old guy at the scale on 75 south of Ocala, but all we had to do was show him the annual permit and he sent us on our way. This was loads with 4ft off the back of a 53ft anything more and we got trip permits and of course that comes along with curfew and such
