Thanks for the input, haven't got a trailer yet, but I would prefer an all aluminum also. It would definitely have the 3 nailers.

If you have the $$$ all alum is fine. We get a load here or there that want something odd. But you really won't be putting yourself out of the market with one. Like @mtoo said, it will help with weight. Also I have 4 strips. Two on the outside and two NEARER to the center. Maybe 2-3 feet apart over the center. Anyway you will be fine.

    Dakine Thanks this.

If you never want to miss a load....... 53' steel, wood floor, can locks, closed tandem for western Canada, and scale 50,000 pounds.

So get what you want and can afford. You will miss a load every once in awhile, but not many.

I was told that Mercer will no longer take trucks older than 2000 because of the electronics. Thay have some O/Os with older trucks that can stay on but will not lease on any more older than 2000.

There is a few guys still running shorter decks and wood floors. I heard of (haven't met but I believe it 100%) of a 3 or 4 digit guy (well a few) still driving a cab over and happy as snot. He also has some crazy old deck.

The thing is that no matter what you have or what areas you work you can do it. Once agents know that you will be there they will find the loads. The agents that can't/won't? Well I just move on and find the ones that will.

All aluminum is the least of your worries. Building a rep? That takes more time.

Looks like you have a Volvo, why you worried? Or is it just because? New regs, all companies will have to do this. Older trucks will have to get their own numbers. That's what regs do. Most of us are here so it effects little. Those that are someplace else, better move someplace new soon or stay where they are.

Personally I was surprised and impressed that mercer didn't put a year limit on sooner. They really were one of the last reputable companies to do it. They waited until their hands were tied in my opinion.

30 years ago today; I was sitting in my very first orientation as an owner operator.
73 seconds into flight, the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded, all 7 crew members died.

3 years later, I had Mercer on my doors!
    And life goes on.

Thanks again, understood. I'll be sure to keep my rep in good standing. I've always been that way, if I tell someone I'll do something, I do it, even if it sucks. I work hard when the work is there, and when it's slow, I just relax and play a little.

I play a lot but if I say I'll do it or be there than I am. If I'm asked to do something I can't do then I say "I will do the best I can but..." Don't make promises that I can't keep and I don't take dodo when I said it was impossible for ME to do something and I wasn't there when they wanted. I run ELD and have no probs. I have learned a few agents that hate Elogs. I laugh, then need to stop making unrealistic promises to customers. Or charge them team freight and run team. Now I have taken a few loads that are team but I could make them. When an agent trust you with that.... Well enough said. But know your limits and what you can do. I've never had mercer flat out lie to me. Maybe I'm an exception or it just cause I've been here a year I don't know. But I have never felt a reason to lie to mercer or an agent. The truth will set you free. Elogs and the such should never worry you here.
