I would agree. I shouldn't have used mega as a description. I think their is a fairly stable core here, just seems there are a lot of guys just passing thru.

A lot of guys that aren't willing to listen or take the time to learn the system....it's pretty black or white at Mercer. You either nut up stop crying and learn how to use the system to your advantage or go complain somewhere else.

But....here we are with a bunch of grown men crying about every single problem they have with the trucking business like it's Mercer's fault.

I wanna be home every weekend & pull for $1.75+ a mile for all miles. But I also know I live in Texas & it's more cut throat here than most states. It's mega-carrier heaven here. So I'm realistic about freight & where I live. I could point the finger all day long at Mercer because sure they could get more customers here, but I understand why they aren't aggressive about it, they will constantly get under cut. I get it, Im not crying about it.

Make it work here or move on, the negative attitudes from people are a great example of why you didn't make it where you were before Mercer.

One day I'll be able to have a tall glass of "Mercer kool-aid" I see you guys talk about so much.. I feel I have the much needed mindset to thrive there with you guys, yet I feel like I may never reach that goal.. Funny thing is I've talked to lots of O/O's who talk so negatively about owning a truck but magically seem to shut up when you ask them about why they haven't went back to being a company driver..

Perception vs reality is how I see it. A lot of guys (myself included) saw all the nice shiny trucks on Facebook and on the road and just assumed money was being thrown at these guys<--- perception. Reality-----> nobody tells you that everything anybody has over here is earned. We all have to go through growing pains and right now the economy is making the growing pains close to unbearable. I don't think nobody over here is a overnight success story. I think I was fortunate to have stumbled upon this thread and read it in its entirety before I even got a truck and that's when really showed me that guys are really grinding week in and week out. Something that helps me when I get frustrated is I always go back and read " why do some fail" and usually the reason for my frustration is in that thread. I'm honest with myself and my main problem is I'm too picky and I let my pride get in the way of making a smart business decision.

I understand completely and would be an utter fool to think that you guys have the world by its tail and nothing had to be earned. I read that thread as well and SMH at some of the reasons for failing there. But from what I gather from this thread, I would have a lot of mentors whose advice I would take to heart and would probably get tired of me calling if it ever got that far.. I assure you, I'm not looking at this with rose colored glasses on..

Retrieving an abandon trailer pays more than fair. By some giving up they benefit others.

Heck in less than 2 years they leased on over 1,750 trucks, that's a growth of 70% of their fleet. They have more than doubled their rate of hiring the last two years, over previous years. If the turnover rate isn't bad, they are retaining trucks in what everyone has said is down economy, not even the Megas are attempting to grow in this economy. The abandoned and returned trailers are easy to explain!!

That's easily seen on this thread alone, if you go back to the beginning of it there is guy after guy , who asked for advice, was told how some of us make it work, and would later post they were happy. It has changed to a i know w everything already, and you guys that's been here a while don't know anything, system, there is no system to Lear, I wish I could do loadboard loads, and on and on. You are deadon, no one wants to listen. But I have 5 kids, from 37 to 18, I am used to dealing with hardheads, I ,in fact, was once one myself. Joseph, is a good example, he was in a turmoil, till he went to flat. But he is a prime example of someone who thought things thru , and made it work.
