Besides the pain of doing all the paperwork, higher plate charges in NC, I'd have to be paying property tax on the truck if registered in home state also, that alone saves me thousands of dollars a year.

I still have a hard time with this. Someone correct me if I am wrong. The new contract along with the Mercer Drivers App. I no longer keep track of my state miles nor the route. No ELD just the drivers app, The app does it all????????????

 

The app will periodically report your location. Through the app, they track your miles for IFTA. You can also use the app for daily check-in, report loaded/empty, and send in any paperwork Mercer needs. You still have to have an ELD for logs, but the app pretty much does everything else.

 

Does Mercer take care of the IFTA charges, pay the tax and then charge it back to the owner op, or do they pay the IFTA tax and absorb the cost?

 

They pay it. If you owe, they don't charge or back. If you have a credit coming, they track it all year and if there is a positive credit at the end of the year they discount the amount they charge for the plate by that amount. Actually they code it as a credit, but same thing.

 

Its not a DOT violation to drive around with no mud flap on the truck right as i got a trailer on? I got to find a dealer to get the whole bracket from to replace it. Looks like the bolt rusted off:/
