I do not like to be negative but I can not buy into Mercer telling me what I need to do my job. I do not use a headache rack or bulkhead. To driver dad I have a basic rack with chain trays no doors available $250.00.
Driverdad Thanks this. -
I get what you are saying, but how i look at it is, being leased to a carrier is very similar to being a franchisee of a restaurant chain. There are certain standards you have to meet to keep the head office happy. You either decide the benefits are worth it, or you put your own name on the door. Nothing wrong with either choice.

I respect the way you feel. Admiral told us that if we do not order our OS permits on their website. In other words not use the phone. They are going to charge $10.00 for the phone call. Our permit service fees are some of the highest out there. My solution, no more oversize for me. None, zero and no way! I have thought about Mercer, but there some things I am not going to do. I have not missed load one in a lot of years for lack of equipment.

I have seen many places that won't load you if you don't have a specific piece of equipment. Some plants require ratchet binders and won't even let you on the property if they see a snap binder on your truck. Other plants require a headache rack to get on. Some places will only load a step if they have a factory manufactured load levelled. The list goes on and on.Mudguppy Thanks this.

A good many places that are nit-picky are not worth going to. Just my opinion! Seems the more they want, the less they want to pay. You want to run my business for me then you need to anty-up.

Flat with sides? Is that so it can be tarped?

The way I look at it is.....If I wan't to work for a company, or do a job then I have to meet their requirements, and follow their rules.TruckerPete1990 and spyder7723 Thank this.

A flat with sides is just another way of saying a sidekit/covered wagon.TruckerPete1990 Thanks this.

Admiral I get exactly where you're coming from. Mercer seemed to be the last semblance of being responsible to yourself. This business is just a slippery slope now of yes men and an overwhelming bureaucracy. One way or the other ill be out at the end of the year, hopefully sooner if the truck sells, otherwise it will sit in the garage for my eternity.Lone Ranger 13 and The Admiral Thank this.
