Pete, a new turbo will have some play. That fan shaped thing on the cold side is connected to another on the hot side by a shaft that is pressed through a bearing. That bearing is designed to ride on a film of oil speed under pressure. So with the engine off, there is no oil pressure keeping that turbo shaft at its proper position. With our researching your exact turbo, i couldn't tell ya what the free play is supposed to be, but it's probably in the range of 6 to 12 thou

 

Pete mh old truck went thru a 4 turbos while i had it. When you wiggle the shaft up and down play is no problem, but if you have play when you push or pull on it thats when it is bad, also look at the vane to see if you have wear on the edges.

 

Anyone know of a good metal / welding shop where I could get some modifications done on my headboard?
