I almost never gross 4500 a week. Doesn't bother me at all. I only care about the net.

True, $3500 on 1200 miles is way better than $3500 on 2000 miles.

Make a bottle test system. Find a coolant system plug in the block, the temp sensor will work. Pull the plug, screw in a pipe fitting with a hose attached. Run it into a 5 gallon bucket and look for bubbles. Or spend 50 bucks at Napa for one of those systems that detects combustion gases at the radiator cap.

Does that cummins have the 3 small heads or is it 1 monster head like my detroit?

3k on 1200 is still better than 3500 on 2k. 800 extra miles for an extra 500 bucks? Ya no thanks.

If you are able to let the truck sit for most of the day without it running(8-12 hours would be best), get under it and crack the oil drain plug until something starts to come out. If you have any water in the oil, it will come out first.

This is true. I got my old pete home all the way from Wisconsin by doing this. Run 3 hours, shut it off for a couple hours. Drain the coolant out of the pan, top the radiator off with water and run another few hours. Rinse and repeat. makes a 2 day trip take 3 days and feel like it took a week.
