Before you start hearing how this is a horrible time of year to make the change I'll say this.
Disadvantage: Well it's cold out and a heck neck of a time to throw tarps.
Advantage; it's cold out so ALL the fair weather flatbedders run to FL and pull UPS
No really, it is winter so you two will have to redouble your efforts. But with so many running UPS there is a lot of freight to go around still. STUDY the board. All the lanes are different in flats. Also there are not as many loads on the flat board so you have to learn how to make your position work for you. Take loads with a little extra time. If hubby has never done flat before he will need more time to tie down loads and tarp. Don't try grabbing a 500 mile load that needs to meet the rigger at 7am. Not that he won't be able to do it but he will wear himself out fast. Give some time to learn.
I hope things continue to improve for you both. I started hear 2 years ago this Thursday although I didn't pull my first load till new years (easier tax wise). You two will do fine.Airborne, Highway Sailor and jccwall Thank this. -

@Razorwyr made the switch from van as I recall. He might have some tips besides just learning to slow down and enjoy life. -

Edit to add. Now that its rounded try heating it up and getting some good visegrips locked on it.
