I do split log to get some where 2 hours earlier, or if I want to work my way to an earlier work day for myself. Because I take my 2 hour break while loading/unloading most of the time I'm not burning up my clock...they are. I was going to happen any way so I take advantage of it. After I take my 8 I know I will get back all my drive time prior to my 2 hour break and what I had left after my 8. It is true I will be forced to take another 2 hour break but I just weigh my options.

You will have to take a break but it depends on how much time you have left after the split. That's all part of running split log. You have to think about how long its going to take you to get loaded or unloaded, if they have parking there, or can you get some where to park before your time runs out. It works well for me but some times when I was sitting for 1h37m I should have just sat for the balance on 2 hours and ended up shooting myself in the foot for being in a hurry.

One more question. Lol just to understand a little better. Yesterday we drove about 5 hours and then loaded and also had 2+ hours off after loading. We drove until we had about 29 minutes of drive time left. If we had only slept for 8 hours, would we have those first 5 hours back? What happens after that? Do we just have 6 hours left to drive like normal? Or do we take another 2 hour break and then have 11 hours available to drive?

No. Say you start your week fresh off a 34 at 6am, 1 hour from your receiver. Then it takes 2 hours to get unloaded and you bounce 1.5 hours to your next load that goes 500 miles. it isn't quite ready so you go off duty for 3 hours then spend 30 minutes loading. Its now 2 pm and 8 hours into your 14. You drive out that 6 hours left on your 14 so shutting down at 8 pm, and 4 hours from your reciever. Take an 8 so get up at 4 am and reach your reciever by the 8 am apointment. Unload, bounce to next shipper, get held up loading and get another 2 hour break in gaining yesterday's post 2 hour break logbook hours back. repeat till friday and you got 1 or 2 extra 500 mile loads in on the week and didn't miss a single delivery appointment.

When utilizing the 8 2 split correctly you will never need to take a full 10. Now if running long loads it won't matter. But on those 1 day runs it really helps.

So your worked(shift A), got a 2 hour break in, worked some more(shift B) got an 8 in. At that point you get the hours back from shift A. When you next take a 2 hour break, you get back the hours from shift B. You can repeat this cycle indefinately. Or reset it and start fresh with a break of 10 hours. Just remember the only time that 14 hour clock stops is for the 8 hour sleeper berth, think of it as a pause button for the 14 hour clock.

Put another way, you look at your days as two shifts, shift a and b its a simple cycle. SHIFT A SHIFT B SHIFT A SHIFT B SHIFT A SHIFT B....

If you use a couple pages out of your paper log for practice you will get it. Much easier to learn by doing these things on paper. Its just the way our brains work, same reason they made us as kids write the same word 10 times when we was learning to spell in 1st grade.

I live on split sleeper. It eliminates the 30 min break so you actually gain 30mins a cycle on long runs. It also saves your rear on short runs. If I wasn't typing on my phone right now I would give a few real world examples of the rule and how best to use it. But the basics are all above.

We made our first delivery! We actually arrived 30 minutes before we estimated. I'm assuming that I will scan the papers with the app and send them in today and then they will pay by Monday afternoon? We reload on Monday going to South Carolina. I forgot how much paperwork it entailed to cross the border! My husband's last company did it all, but I know it will get easier each time. Of course we were sent for a second review of the truck and trailer and then sent to immigrations because of me (which is weird as I have been crossing regularly with him for 7 years!). Fun fun

If you are getting your pay on his fuel card, yes. Otherwise, it might be Tuesday. I get the money in the bank the following business day IF I get the settlement before 3pm. A lot of that is bank stuff.
