Here I expected you to tell me that you could do it in about 5 hrs for a steak dinner and a sixer of tall boys...dang it man.
Well I did talk to the original owner, and he informed me that he did the balancer a few yrs ago.... and a little research online led me to believe that the newer 14L bullgear bearings weren't as prone to failure as the older 12.7. So maybe I'll just let it ride.
Truck's running good, I think I'm just looking for something to spend money on.
Welcome back, we missed ya....

Should have mentioned it earlier. lol I just got my inspection done at Mercertown..... I got a cracked front brake shoe and a couple rear brakes out of adjustment. I'm just going to replace the slack adjusters, its a reoccurring problem it seems. -
Roadway: never even heard of them using lift axles, however they did have some with tag axles(back in the 80s and early 90s we had over a dozen of former roadway trucks in the back row for parts)Are you sure you aren't confusing the two? Do they even have a tandem axle tractor today?
Leaseway: after decades of poor management was merged into penske logistics in 94.
Cassens: the union car hauler company? Clearance issues prevent lift axles from being a good idea. Besides which, it's freaking car hauling. Fuel mileage will always suck no matter what.
Sorry it took so long to respond. Been a busy morning and wanted to research those companies and wanted to research their results with liftable tag and pusher axles. Couldnt find line single source staying any of them ever utilised the lift axle configuration. Not surprising considering their successful days were over before i was even born, and im not exactly a young man.
But what i did found was article after article oin industry publications touting them. Even one interview with a pepsi executive stating they have seen big operational savings at the 70 dcs they are utilising lift axles on the trailer.
Are lift axles the answer for every segment in trucking? Of course not. Nothing is. But that doesnt invalidate basic laws of physics.Last edited: Jul 13, 2017
