We have plenty of folks in their late 60s and early 70s tarping every day. Heck my good friend jerry did it until the day he sold his truck and retired at 79 years old.
Nothing wrong with a guy wanting to work in vans, or any other segment of trucking. But if tarping enters the decision making, that's just a lack of discipline and work ethic. Any talking monkey can survive owning a truck, but to thrive and substantially earn more than a good company driver? That takes a level of discipline, sacrfice, and work ethic that makes henry ford look like some California tree hugging hippy.

I respect this reply so much. People dont realize how tough it can be trucking but those that are in the business can go longer and harder than any other line of work.
How long have you been with mercer. Hows the pay. He is open to trying anything if someone can show him the ropes on a flatbed he is willing to work. I think its be that worries about him actually more so himself. -
Flatbedding in a nutshell from a non skateboarder whose experience is limited to cars, boats, large wooden boxes and assorted machinery.
If it can roll forward or backward, strap it down so it won't roll forward or backward.
If it can roll side to side, tie it together and strap it so it can't roll side to side.
If it can blow off, strap it down so the wind won't get under it and blow it off.Airborne Thanks this. -
