Maybe I could just use my trailer. And back up and put pressure towards front of 5th wheel and adjust that way.

Its been a long time since i bought a king pin for a trailer... but i bet you can get one for under a hundred bucks. Then weld it to a piece of flat steel and you got yourself that fancy tool.

Btw, the only thing that till is used for is to give the tech something to gauge how much too adjust the fifth wheel. Instead you could adjust it in small increments until the slack is out of it when you hook up to the trailer.

    TruckerPete1990 Thanks this.

Do you have the bolt with a nut on it that sticks out on the front of your fifth wheel?

You sure it isn't a Jost?

I thought Fontaine had the bolt like I described, I know my old 05 did.

Yeah 100% sure I can see it on top of the 5th wheel. I only got the pull handle and a bolt like that you turn to adjust the slack.

I dunno then. I always use my trailer to adjust the jaws. No need for a special tool. Just go in small increments (1) turn at a time until the slop is gone. Sometimes it takes many turns depending on how wore out the plate and pin are. Just don't over do it, I've heard that can be a real ##### to get the jaws to release. Also make sure that your slop is not in the pins that hold the plate on the stands or that it's not the slider.
