You’re from IL correct? See if there is something that you can use/claim to be tax exempt. In IA for example, we are tax exempt on trucks/trailers as long as 25% or more of the miles the truck/trailer will be used are out of state.

That's my plan also. Tell them I'll be off for a few weeks or a month. I never know how long I'll be off. That's the nice thing about being an o/o, I don't get baby sat. At least I didn't think I would.

To my knowledge we can just log back in to Keller & go to work as usually regardless of how long we tell them we'll be off for.

The plate won't affect being tax exempt. The state that you title the trailer in determines sales tax exempt rules. If the salesman doesn't know, just call the title dept in your county and ask them. You are using the trailer 'for hire' so it shouldn't be a big deal. I found an IN Dept of Rev document from 2002 that might be of some interest.

Put a gallon of oil in it and run that truck into the ground while banking every single penny you can so when it finally says that's enough i ain't going another mile you got the money to go get another.

I've thought about it. I'm losing my oil from the front gasket cover. Just haven't had it repaired.
