Yep. Used to be he was just all around pretty warm and friendly. More like talking to a buddy than the safety director. I have nothing but respect for the man and hate seeing the effect the job has had on him in recent years.

Think the majority of companies out here will hire anyone and everyone. Every single one of them needs drivers. Even Walmart appears to have changed the hiring standard.

When I was a company driver the company I was working for started sending safety personnel out to the shippers. Once you pulled in they would walk over to you and identify themselves then proceed to inspect your truck for company violations. If any were found you would be paced out of service until they were corrected. Now that was BS but it was their truck. This don't sound to surprising to me, something I didn't think about but now must consider while driving.

I like that.....In Baltimore or any other large city you leave your self following distance it gets swallowed up instantly now how can that be your fault? But any more if I can't get by those types of areas by 1500 I will park in advance and run in the early am hours.

Oh no, it was all me. When I got the letter I knew exactly what day it was. I was running behind, put my foot on the floor and ran up people's ##### that day. I wasn't changing lanes erraticly, but I was definitely unsafe following distance trying to bully them out of the way. I deserved it. I have like a -30 score though. That was my only hit. I've had 3 passed inspections this summer and another observation that was positive.

I do not need to hear things like this a month before I want to come over.

It's pretty standard, from my experience, industry wide. I don't know whether the push is from insurance companies or what, but I know a lot of companies do it.

It personally doesn't bother me. It certainly wasn't meant to bad mouth Mercer. I just thought it was a little weird feeling being watched for 5 miles... lol. I have a dash cam so I'm watching all the time :biggrin_25524:
