A solution could be a 2 tier system, inexperienced guys could only tarp low value freight for a year.

That's not the kind of tarp job you should see on a truck hauling freight for a company that used to be known as the premier flatbed company in the US

RStewart, spyder7723 and HalpinUout Thank this.

I think that would be fair same thing goes with O/S loads etc etc... How long has it been since Mercer was considered the premier flatbed company?

Pat teaches the class and it's great for what it is. It's better than what it was from what I hear. But you'll only learn more from first hand experience

A very long time. While it still had the reputation a few years ago, that was reputation based on prior years, not recent history. If a person could narrow it down i would say the slide started back when they started loaning money on securement equipment and no longer requiring 3 years open deck experience.

When you only hire guys that have all their equipment you tend to get guys that know what they are doing. When you hire guys that have no equipment and no own deck experience you get guys that learn by screwing up.

Yep. A tier system would be better. This is one advantage landstar has. A newbie can't get a 15 wide load his first week in like here.

Heck, mine wasn't that long.... Maybe 2 hours total. Like 30 minutes with securement, then went to the classroom for like an hour.
