While pete plays with those boxes I'm yanking 3k lbs all the way to new Mexico. Dont usually run that far west but for almost 3 a mile I'm all over it.

Does anyone know if nm requires chains? I don't want to add 400 more lbs to my already to heavy empty weight if i don't have to. Where I'm going there won't be any snow but not sure about the state requirements how much snow they get up on 40.

As of last winter, NM had no chain laws at all. OOIDA publishes a state list every year if you want to verify the current law. A few years ago I was on I-40 near Tucumcari the first week in October when it got shut down due to a blizzard. You can check out the US fronts and radar weather map at:

    www.wunderground.com/maps

to see what the approaching weather is doing.

Also, if your route takes you on US-54 especially through Alamagordo, be really careful to look for the CMV Checkpoints. The signs are amateurish and don't look official and the check stations are not much more than wide spots on the shoulder. The NM DOT Gestapo use them as revenue centers with a double dip; one ticket for the bypass and another for failure to observe warning signs.

Well I finally broke down and bought a new APU... Kept going back and forth in my mind over the past month lol. It's a big chunk of cash to fork over...Based on recommendations from a couple fellow Mercer drivers who post on here I decided to go with a Dynasis and had Boomer Diesel in OKC install it. Its got a CAT motor which I like. Its early on but so far I'm very happy with it. Took them about 6 hours to install. If anyone is considering getting one in the future I would certainly recommended giving Boomer a call... They are a small family Operated shop... Good people.
