If you do drill it file the end flat and center punch it for a starter, drill low speed, lots of oil for cooling. Do not break the bit off as you can"t drill a bit out.

just don"t pull the trigger while heating or you cut the end of your stud off.

I don"t want to sound pushy but I have done this work for thirty plus years before I started driving again and this is worked 95% of the time. But I did end up drilling some out as they get cross thread at the factory. Sometime drill as large as possible and use an easyout when cool, may come out. Then your choice is see if you can and have room to tap it to tne next size or use a helicoil.

Not with a helicoil. You buy them based on your bolt size. The hole is drilled bigger and then tapped for the helicoil threads to thread into.

Also, with drilling, you have to be very careful to drill it straight and not too deep or as mentioned earlier, you might hit a water jacket and have to replace the cylinder head. I did that on a Ford explorer. After breaking a bit trying to drill the stud out and going through many types of bits to drill the broken bit out, I got too excited when it finally started drilling through, and I drilled off center and hit a water jacket.

Well no freaking wonder you broke a bolt. When we said to heat it with a torch we were talking about using a work tool. Not some camp ground toy.
