You got a vibration somewhere. Tighten them a bit more than 44 and check them in a day or so. It's an exhaust manifold, not a bearing, as long as you don't go crazy you can snug it up past spec.

  4. Used to have trouble keeping headers on my stock car cause of the harmonics running 8,000rpm. Older fellow been doing it a long time said throw away those expensive gaskets and just use a little high temp. silicone. Being the aircraft mechanic I was said no way you gotta have a gasket duct tape and silicone won't fix everything. 20 tries later got mad and tried it. Come to find out old man knew his business. Never used a manifold or header gasket since on any engine. Manifold expands and contracts different than the head and gaskets r really hard and get brittle over time so don't seal and then the bolts don't have pressure on them so they rattle out. 100% silicone won't get brittle or shrink from heat just don't use a ton of it. May not work for everyone but it's always worked well for me.

So I'd probably look like a toddler strolling in at 27...

I'm 34. You'll see some younger guys but not a lot. If you meet the requirements that Mercer has and have everything else lined up for yourself to succeed age is irrelevant.

  7. I'll bet it's unimportant but not irrelevant. The older ones know the ropes generally and as they age they get tired of watching everyone new coming in and screwing up their system so they get grouchy... lol. I personally think I have the aptitude to be one of the youngest members of the prick cabinet and look forward to the opportunity... lol.. seriously though that's one thing I like about my current job I work with a bunch of 55-70 year olds and we have a hell of a good time. They teach and ##### and I call them old and stuck in their ways but at the end of the day I help them with new things they're scared of and they teach things known from experience. It's great and I see allot of that in the guys on this thread which leads me to believe the majority of the fleet is this way. One of the reasons I'm really interested in Mercer.

Unimportant or irrelevant you get the point I was making. If he's 27 and has his ducks in a row I wouldn't worry about age. I've seen plenty of older guys do stuff that make me shake my head in this business.

  9. Oh yeah I'm not real good with form etiquette as you can tell I probably should've posted that separately. Yeah who cares age as long as you got the skills, ethics, and paperwork to back it up. I've just been really impressed with guys like skate, flightline, and mtoo(who's really calm and not so grouchy apparently) that keep plugging away giving guys advice and putting up with the a-holes coming in here acting like they know everything. When looking at a new employer or company to lease with whatever you're doing I've always looked at the oldest guys there. A company that cares about it's people takes care of the guy going out the door in a month or a year just like the guy who's just walking in instead of forgetting about him. When they're happy and willing to promote Mercer like they do it means something. IDK but it seems to be a good indicator. Sorry @HalpinUout you was helping the guy out it just made me think one of the things I see at Mercer that most industries are lacking these days. Btw.. there's many of you on here I'm just naming three I know I can call um more experienced than most.
