It's been a year this past 10/1. for me here at Mercer. I brought in and grandfathered 7 drivers. All except one are very happy here. #8 starts next week. The 1 unhappy simply marches to the beat of his own drum. Plainly stubborn.

Personnally I have to comment. I take home after fuel and all mercer expenses and my truck note more than $2500 a week with out effort. Up until I asked for a new coordinator I did it all myself. Book loads call agents the whole 9. My current coordinator makes my life even easier. nothing new to anyone that has read my stuff before. But dont insinuate that you cant make money here because thats a crock. My record gross in 7 days is 8800. I did 6739 this past week. My protégé topped 9200 this past week.
The trick Ive found is to run where the money likes to run not where I like to run.
    ok rip me apart now.

Dang skateboard, apparently you have gotten by the house pretty often with all them younguns. Lol
im a newbie at mercer pulling vans. So far everything has been great! Seems to be plenty of freight going and coming from plenty of places. I actually fussed because I'm getting home too often. Haha. Contemplating pulling flats at some point but pulling vans here is pretty easy...

I got tired of the sleeping in the day, running at night. I was supposed to be on a dedicated run that fell apart so I ended up in the fill in positions which was very wishy washy, didn't know when and where one was going till the last min.
Money is good per mile and all runs are round trip, though.
I think it'll be more organized this year but I'm going stay with my step.

Haven't followed this thread in a while - looks like it's thriving!

I am contemplating buying 2 more tractors and putting all three to work leased somewhere and Mercer is at or near the top of my list. Admiral Merchants and Meadow Lark are also near the top. I'll trade in my DD/RGN on I'm thinking 3 lo pro step decks w/beaver tails. I want to stay home manage to manage and dispatch the trucks. I have a couple of retail customers so I'm thinking about also becoming an agent if possible. No one will complain about having more freight opportunities in Florida I think?

Anyone have feedback on being a small fleet owner /agent with Mercer?

With those trailers or even your double drop I think you would be better off at Admiral Merchants.
When I was there I often thought a step with ramps would have been better than my flatbed.

I have a step with ramps and I would say flats do better especially now tll late spring. I use my ramps approx 6-8 times a year.

I was supposed to load there Friday, but got held up with a florida permit on Fridays load, and they moved mine to Monday and deliver Tuesday, I got one of the legal width loads.

you have just found what you like to do, and you have found how to work mercers system, you have found how to work with mercers system, instead of working against it, hence your friend marching to the beat of his own drummer. but even at that he is still able to do what he wants to do.

that's all a man can hope for, be able to do what a man wants to do. bayou seems to think because he has his own authority he is different, several of us , flightline and myself have had our own authority, I just reached an age where I wanted to relax a bit and cut back some.
