Because I want to. Because I like it. Because it makes steering wheel holders like you cry.

I didnt realize you had to have a scientifically based reason to run a paper log if you qualify, which I do.

Interesting. I know guys that run different size tires and actually gearing, height or wear adjustments (not really sure what you're referring to) played no role in their decision. As a matter of fact. Their decision was more based on looks, comfort and affordability. Which according to you is....not "something practical ".

Why do some guys prefer red trucks over blue ones?

    I'll continue waiting .

You still fail to follow your own advice. You cannot deliver anything that shows any advantages of paper over electronic.

You qualify for an exemption. Why are you hassling those who don't? Oh wait

You feel that lording your exemption above others elevates you above everyone. Well ride high there, superchief.

Exemption or not, I'm still looking forward to any advantages you believe paper holds. That's assuming you can deliver.

    Reckon I'll keep waiting.

You still fail to answer questions that I asked you about. Remember the red and blue truck scenario? Did you forget?

Now if you dont mind, superchief, can you post a link to where I said i enjoy running paper because there was an "advantage"?. I'd like to see if I require an "advantage" in order to do stuff that I feel like doing simply for no other reason at all...other than i want to do them.

Recon I'll keep waiting while I'm riding high up here.

I politely asked first. I know brain fog affects the elderly and mentally questionable, but click the back button a few times and you'll see I have first asked you to show why/how running paper is better. Surely having done everything you've supposedly done you can manage that without a handout.

I don't mind recalling this next bit though:
It must be advantageous to run one or the other at different times of the year. We can shelf the idea that your insurance/shipper/broker/carrier for your propane gig requires it, because they probably do, and come back to that later. Why switch? Why have half your records in one spot, and the other half in another? Why spend any time placing/removing equipment (even OBD transmitters) between the two? Either you figure there is some advantage or flexibility you gain with the paper logs over electronic or it is as simply as you state that you just prefer it that way.

We'll ignore the first in favor of the latter for a moment to entertain you. You run paper because you can/want to/won't be told otherwise. That's fair. You do you. Why jump on anyone else for doing differently? I can see where you took roshea's comment about outlawing it with paper offensively (as you clearly have felt it as a personal attack). I don't agree with his brand of sentiment on the subject, but it does hold water in enough cases to be valid. You feel that's suddenly an attack on you (and from out of nowhere too as I've not seen you in this thread with any frequency since I first came across it a couple of years ago, but that's neither here nor there). Your reaction to it is fairly smug and your attitude dismissive, neither are qualities found in people of any regard.

Returning to your propane gig... I assume you have to use electronic logs for either some regulatory, insurance or dispatch reason, yes? What are the differences you note between the two methods? Use these differences to explain why your preference is for paper. This is literally what the FMCSA asked that no one could obviously give a good answer to. The electronic logs are easier to use, store, transfer and view at any given point over paper. The only upper hand paper has is that they are cheaper than any elog and required monthly fee, I'll give them that.

But to stomp your feet like a child and whine you want to do it the old way is simply unconvincing.

Red trucks get more tickets and blue trucks live in Omaha.

You are spare parts there bud. I'm still waiting a cohesive reply that isn't dodgy and dismissive.

Yes I switch back an forth, so what. 2 separate companies ....one has a it as a policy, other doesn't...blah blah blah.

I realize you having a severely hard time understanding the FACT that as an American, I simply have the RIGHT to do as I please as long as it follows the guidelines of the law.

Also, your statistics of red versus blue and tickets are incorrect and you failed to actually provide any practical data there. You really failed on the entire subject here, but just for sport....we will continue. Your way so things are fair to you.

So, difference between ELD and paperpaper logs as I see them:

    1. Paper logs do not hang in my window or on my dash as an obstruction.

    2. Paper logs do not require electronic voltage or a connection to my ECM via extra wiring, brackets, screws, holes in the dash or fire wall or any other hardware to use properly. In my opinion, just another thing to go wrong. I've been through 3 Rand units in 1 year due to electrical failure with the device.

    3. Paperlogs do not malfunction, they do not short out or wear out.

    4. Paperlogs do not cause a glare at night or a reflection in my windshield at night. Again an obstruction.

    5. Paper logs dont require a password or GPS signal to work properly. Only a pen and the ability to do math and know how to coordinate you geographical location. (Write on on paper)

    6. Paper logs are simple, available when I need them, easy to use, provide a neat, clean obstruction free environment inside my cab.

    7. Paper logs give the inspecting DOT officer a quick, simple easy and quick view of the past 7 days In a matter of 1 minutes or less, he can easily see everything I've done without even pushing a signal button, and doesnt have to look at any guide book to tell him how, like the ELD. That guide book or instruction pamphlet is required by law to be carried at all times in your cab.

As a matter of fact, I've had atleast 2 separate DOT officers tell me they prefer inspecting HOS via paper log versus ELD, for obvious reasons.

    8. Oh, and the last reason, but the most important and the actual deciding factor on my list, BECAUSE I LIKE USING PAPER LOG BOOKS AND ITS LEGAL TO DO SO.

Btw, isn't it recommended that even though you have an ELD, it's a good idea to keep a paper log book in case a device failure occurs?

So why bother working with the one company that requires them. You've clearly listed below how much of a hindrance they are in your cab, how unreliable they are, etc. Since it's such a burden, why even bother?

I don't recall questioning your legal ability to. Just your reasoning as to why. And you've been reluctant to share.

You asked for preference. Not empirical data. But I'm beginning to think you don't know the difference.

Ok, now we're getting somewhere. I drive a W9. I have my Omnitracs unit mounted on the passenger side of the cupholder. Away from the dash and low enough away it obstructs nothing, but also within quick easy glance.

So that's a dud. Bring the next grievance.

You have a point here. I've never had issues with either of my Omnitracs units, but have seen first hand different issues with the same units (and others) ranging from not reading drive time/distance right, being way off on GPS positioning and not communicating with Omnitracs data.

However, these issues are far and few in between. And the issues that do pop up can be handled promptly. So that's a dud.

No, but by their very nature they are subject to manipulation or destruction. Hence the electronic ones now. Next.

Mount it low and turn the display brightness down or off. Solved.

I've delivered to some rather remote parts of NM. No cell service for hours in any direction. Omnitracs was pinning me every 5 minutes like clockwork. And in the rare case it doesn't, I have a spot to manually enter it. If you can remember your first dog's name you have a password. Solved.

So are my electronic logs. Solved.

I've been inspected three times running electronic logs. First two time they just wanted to see the Summary and 8 Days tabs. Two buttons. So hard. Don't know how I did it. Third officer asked to see the instruction cards. I have them with my permit book the page after my insurance. Glanced at that and looked at the 8 Days page himself. Don't know how either of us coordinated our way through that one.

    Next.

That third officer told me the opposite. Said the ECM doesn't lie. Whereas when I ran paper, sometimes they wanted to see fuel or toll receipts...

Cool beans. You do you superchief. I like electronic.

Isn't it recommended you carry a fire extinguisher? But hey, you finally came out and told me how you feel on the subject. And the grand total of it all is you feel put upon when using them. Granted a lot of it is self inflicted.

All of that blustering for that.

You said, and I quote: "That third officer told me the opposite. Said the ECM doesn't lie. Whereas when I ran paper, sometimes they wanted to see fuel or toll receipts..."

ECM can be swapped with no trouble and has very little to do with what the officer can see on a ELD device when inspecting it, 1.
    2. If you are running legal, guess youd have no problem showing those fuel and toll receipts. Hmmmm......

Wow, so basically everything you just posted came back to my original statement. PREFERENCE. Amazing isnt it.

A matter of preference. Absolutely none of the stuff you tried to debate was practical data, just merely an opinion of yours, which you're entitled to, but certainly Doesnt make your statement any more credible, so that's out.

In fact, you failed to debunk anything I posted in my list of reasons why I like paperlog and why its wrong or whatever it was you were wasting time crying about. Also, you are using an entirely different device brand. You therefore have no first hand experience with the one I use. So that's a dud.

As far as why I use them hauling propane in the winter? Every single propane carrier in my area requires an ELD. I like hauling propane, I like the home time and I like the money even more.

you have to take the good with the bad sometimes.

Once the season is over I switch back and enjoy my simple, trouble free loose leaf paper logs.

You got all butt hurt, but I accept your surrender. I've seen your white flag and it's been duly noted.

    P.s. I carry 2 fire extinguishers.

This is how you quote. It's not rocket surgery.

Except the part where it kicks you on the drive line when moving greater than 5 mph. Or kicking you back to On Duty when the park brake is set for longer than 5 minutes. Reckon how it knows that....hmm, that's a mystery.

If you're running legal you'd have no problem running an electronic log. Hmmmm......

Your inability to articulate why is what amazed me. And when you did you listed some half baked woe-is-me reasons. I mean there are guys who prefer Fords. I'm not judging.

To be fair, neither was any of yours. Everything you provided as to your feelings on electronic logs were just that, feelings. And no one cares for your snowflake feelings.

Debunked most of your placement, manner and form, and service issues. You fail to improvise, adapt and overcome, even when it is handed to you. Worse than a 22 year old gender studies major, I swear. As far as brand of device, yeah I pick something that's been around awhile and has been proven and,is easily serviced nationwide. Omnitracs, Kenworth, Caterpillar, Chevrolet. Things that get the job done.

    Ever wonder why it is?

You have. You just won't admit to it.

    Fair enough.

Says the guy what brigaded a Mercer thread when someone badmouthed paper logs. Whining like a purple haired feminist studies major when you tell them Trump's their president.

I'll have to remember to get you a cookie.

Being monitored by the minute is plenty of reason to hate them. Not having the ability to stop and have a life out of the truck without impacting the ability to earn revenue is another good reason.

It's past time for a debate, and I'm not trying to have one.

    Have a good one!

Youre pretty clueless, It's a good thing you're a beginner in trucking, you would have never made it before ELDs were implemented.

What was it you said you did before trucking, worked at a shoe store or something like that? Dont worry, you'll get the hang of this truck stuff. It's pretty easy really.
