I had a problem this morning. 9 am delivery appointment. I park at the customer and they come and wake me up at 530 and tell me to pull into the dock and they'll unload me. Now here I sit at the truck stop empty waiting for my 10hr break to be over so I can pick up my next load and head home.

well, freight in Texas sucks right now so in the interest of not hauling cheap freight I'll set at the house for the weekend and see what shows up Monday

Didn't say I've seen it all. Did not post a resume. My statement was directed to the OP who stated "My guess is that you dont have much experience ...." so if you had put the statement in context you could understand the conversation. I'm almost 65, actually started driving some tandem dumps and such at 18 so if you count that it puts me at nearly 47 years experience. How do you counter that, I would make a guess and say you are much younger and you assume there are not a lot of older experienced people here?

Where the heck did you get conspiracy theories from? Not that's a good one. When did I say it was or was not simple to use a paper logbook? Where did that come from? My whole premise is that the reason to be so deadset against electronic logs is because it records your actual driving time and duty day. We all know everyone still lies about the on duty part, attempting to show usually 15 minutes at most load/unload, and that is a whole different issue.

Yeah, I've been around and seen a lot. Some guys would use a whole logbook just to get through one week with all the pages that got torn out an rewritten.

Critical thinking and debating skills are sorely lacking here. The first thing that seems to happen is to make attacks personal and stray from the facts.

As some of us have discussed away from this forum, this thread at one time was Mercer drivers helping each other and those interested in the company. Now it is just whining and more people that don't work there than do.

Seems a lot of people have had delivery problems lately. I had to push back what started as a one day load because another driver that was supposed to do the same load could not be found. Mercer load but not a Mercer driver. Customer had to bring in equipment and contractors to do the unload so it got pushed a day, assuming the other driver would eventually pick up the load. Ruined my plans for sure. The to top it off we arranged for 1100 delivery, which turns out is when they go to lunch for an hour and shut down the jobsite. Left there at 1400 and the other driver still never showed to pick up the load (60 miles away).

For most of you that have never been on the "other side" and been a dispatcher, planner, manager, etc. you have no idea how unreliable a very large number of drivers are. It doesn't matter if you are company, lease, independent, it would surprise you to see what the paper-pushers have to deal with. And to be clear, Mercer is no exception. That is why building relationships with agents can be so beneficial, when they know you are reliable other loads can be made available. Same applies to Landstar, Admiral, etc. any company where you self dispatch.

I agree, that's why when I agree to be somewhere, ill be there 30 minutes to an hour early, and if I can't for some reason I'll let people know when I'll be there

That's all it takes, communications when there is a problem, as soon as possible.

I myself don't want to be late on any loads. I know things happen and as soon as I even think there is going to be an issue I start calling people. It turns out that I have over thought it and no issue but I communicated as soon as I thought it would be a problem.

I have a tendency to overthink things also.

Freight was decent today but I was only looking for loads taking me home. I did alright but I never hit a home run leaving Texas.
