you might get a second opinion on that dh deduction, you can deduct the fuel costs, but there isn't a mileage deduction for deadhead miles, or mileage like for a car used for business purposes.

but really 1.98 a mile for all miles and 11k revenue in 2 weeks. you did ok, you did learn a thing or two from this thread.

I'll second that, you can only write off the costs incurred, such as fuel, which you would write off anyway. There is not now, nor has there ever been a deduction allowed for unpaid miles.

This is something that you really need to talk to your accountant about, should you get audited YOU will be held liable for this, and the IRS does not play nice.

No, I believe she is deducting the fuel cost using my MPG average. As the truck already gets a depreciation deduction and the trailer "lease" is deducted too. But I'm not sure how it works. She just said to make sure that I track and send all my dead head in separate so I am.

I'll get her to clarify what she told me. I may have misunderstood.

Then you would in essence be deducting a portion of your fuel twice, or more.

Makes sense. Like I said I'll give her a call. She had a long list of things that I needed to do different once I moved over. I've really just been trying to learn the system. Pick up on a thing or two from you guys. And for now, make it two more weeks........ Lol

Quick question. I've been thinking, saving and researching over the past 3 years about coming into the owner op world. And I'm sold on mercer hands down. I just got the green light to go truck shopping and I'm really been leaning towards a pre-emissions 03- older truck. So my question is what's you guys take on it. The 03-07 is in my price range. I'm asking this because of the whole ELD situation over their.

If I was going to buy a truck in that range, I would only buy one with a Cat in it. From 04-07 they are the only ones that don't have EGR.

    TaylorMade407 Thanks this.

Ok so I could open up my choices. I heard pre-emission is the way to go as far as starter trucks. Wouldn't mind a 06-07

So this info might be out there, but what does Mercer pay?, linehaul % or per mile? Also do you have a trailer rental fee and do you get 100% of fsc? Just asking, applied last night.
    Thanks
