I'm carrying enough padding as it is now, think I'm gonna stay away from those type of loads if they're that bad on tarps and padding.

Get some carpet. I've never had carpet puncture through.

Yup. I guess the owner got out idk. I asked him who was gonna dispatch the truck when we were loading outta Robards and he said the coordinator was because he wasn't gonna fool with the load board.

Is 70s crazy colored long shag carpet better or short solid tone berber carpet better?

I was looking at getting some burlap sacks or fire hose, had a couple straps get cut on this load, but unfortunately had no way to put edge protectors on it to save straps. I've got some "fans" that they didn't want me tightening down on and they have an aluminum lip that sticks out with nothing below it to stop the edge protectors or any padding to just fall down when the wind catches the straps. Only cut one of them bad, but 2 straps are starting to wear, so a buddy mentioned the fire hose idea to me the other day. It's ok though, I've got like 24 straps and rarely need more than 10 or 12, so next time on the yard I will just trade these in and get some new ones. I need to get my truck/trailer inspection done in the next month and a friend starting orientation sometime this week, so I may swing by if I can ever get out of this loop I'm stuck in.

Burlap is good for straps and I found the short Berber carpet works better than the shag.

Cut the fabric part of the strap off and just trade in the hooks. Old straps, cut in about 4 ft sections make excellent edge protectors. Much better than the plastic ones. As for carpet, I doubt three is a difference between different types. I just use whatever I can get ahold of. Next timeyou are at home go ask a creeper installer for some scraps. Bring a twelve pack of decent beer. or if early morning at a job site, a dozen donuts for the crew. It goes a long way towards getting favors.
