Right now comparing company to L/O.
Work to pay ratio I make less than a company driver.
Work seems to never stop as a L/O.
I'm on a salary equal to about what id make as a company driver.
The increase in Income comes years down the road.
More and more Live loads/unloads on the board!

Besides all of us who run on Choice are L/O and not O/O.
driverdriver Thanks this. -
It really depends on you.
For most at least 5 yrs. You need to learn the industry and there are some things that only come with time.
There are some exceptions, depending on previous experience in business or time around the industry.
If you make the move before you're ready, you will end up in worse financial shape, not better. -
Not true..some have brought their own trucks as o/o.
-
Thanks guys. Have a great Easter or a safe day on the road.
I am impressed with what I've seen regarding the choice board but I have some time to learn and research. -
It is true, EVERY Truck is leased to SNI.
We operate under a ICOA. We either pull the load as they say or we don't pull it.
Owning your truck is not what makes you an Owner Operator.LindaPV, driverdriver and gentleroger Thank this. -
The only real money you'll ever see in this industry is when you have little or no payment at all... Paying what we pay everyweek its true a hard working company driver at the right company can make the same.. But the reward comes after you've scratched and clawed your way to no truck payment. Then it's not even a discussion. You'll surpass any company driver with your eyes closed
TruckerVinny and drvrtech77 Thank this. -
I find that I work less and make more than I did as a company guy.
But I do have a few factors that help:
I live in a good place for freight.
Very little debt.(other than the truck)
Saved a lot of money for just in case.
It took me 20 years to finally take the plunge from company to IC.
18 months of lease payments before I bought my own truck.
O/O is probably next..maybe. -
Until you need a new truck, then you're back to making payments.

Overhaul u still come out cheaper. Ain't that right @rickybobbyrickybobby Thanks this.
